The other problem I see with posting a load of text in a comps post is that any comments can be lost off the screen view.I can be a bit quick when entering and have missed relevant comments because they are way down the page behind a big picture and loads of text.I'm glad that admin has reinforced this point.I've always felt it was covered in this post re copying text......... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1148799
I lot of people copy pictures directly from the promotors sites and post them on here. Some of the regulars have started to use stock/copyright pictures so maybe this gets round the hotlinking problem but I remain doubtful.
Each to their own but I've not tended to post large amounts of text or pictures but when I've mentioned this I felt I was knocked back.Hopefully we wll all adhere to this admin rule as not do so may put the future of this section of MSE in jeopardy.
I'd not imagine that the smileys etc are covered by this and should be ok.
thanks weeowen, will make sure piccies are only little ones if i use them :beer:please be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
I think it's not so much the size that MSE has a problem with but where they are from. For a web site owner to put things on his site bandwith is required.Any pictures that we put on here that are hosted elsewhere reduce that sites owners ability to operate as he would wish as his bandwith is being used elsewhere. At least this is how I understand it.
Sites such as Photobucket etc are fine on here as that is their expressed purpose ie to host pictures for others to access.0 -
I do agree with the pictures comment and the text - to a degree. Text is important if it's relevant T&C's - specially dates etc...Not everyone can access the T&C's and they do disappear after the comp has finished. But yes, a limit as to what we can put has always been pointed out but people ignore it.Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A

I entered one of many competitions of their site today, and received an email:
Thanks for signing up to Findmepoker.com. The full search capabilities of the site will become live over the next few months, while we sign more and more casinos up to our service. It will always remain FREE to our users, we anticipate the site to fully launch in January 2010.
In the interim, we will send you one of our limited edition Findmepoker.com pens, as a thank you for signing up. Please note these are limited to 1 per user.

Customer services at FindMePoker.com.
I never at any stage signed up to this site, so I queried this and was told it was an automatic sign up from Myfamilyuk.
Be careful , The prizes do seem to be too good to be true and now I know they are.
Who knows what other sites they have given my details to.
Hi RuBy
I posted some comps. earlier for myfamilyuk and someone asked if it was 'spammy'.
I had no reason to think so, it's not on the list of ones to watch in the Comping Guide (near end of post 7), and seems to be regularly posted without issues... It also checks out okay with Norton and Google on LinkExtend, but I did more digging and arrived here.
May I ask what kind of comp. it was that you entered? The reason I ask is that the only other posts I can find on MSE which suggest it's spammy are on holiday comps. here and here. Maybe it's not MyFamily, but the particular sites that each comp. is for..?myfamilyuk are now an affiliated link site
so its gone quite spammy
Is this for anything on there, or certain 'types' of comps..? (holidays, win at the bingo, or whatever..).
Their T&Cs include things like:When you register your details (your real first name, last name, postal address, e-mail address and other relevant information) you agree to have those details validated, receive advertiser and prize draw offers and questionnaires by e-mail.0 -
It appears that Myfamily are another permission marketing company and one of those sites that share there prizes, if the prizes seem to good to be true it's because the prize is shared between numerous sites and even though the comp is on all of the sites there is only one prize winner
do a search on the big prizes and you will see them on the permission marketing sites like MyOffers, Fair Exchange, Getmeaticket, Win 4 Now etc
My family Win a Mini Cooper
http://www.myfamilyuk.com/Competitions/Latest-Offers/competitions-win-a-mini-cooper.html
!!!!!!! Win a Mini Cooper
http://!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!/win-a-car
MyOffers Win a Mini Cooper
http://www.myoffers.co.uk/win-a-mini-cooper-7918-4.asp
Instant!!!!!!! Win a Mini Cooper
http://www.instant!!!!!!!.co.uk/competition/mini_coop?ID=null
Coincidence I think not the !!!!!'s are because the sites have been blocked by mse
The myfamilys win a £5,000 Spanish holiday was linked to Club La Costa & Fair Exchange - PDV Ltd
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1981447
Fair Exchange Club La Costa and PDV LTD are on the sites to avoid list so if myfamily are prepared to share information with known spam sites then I think that they should also be on the list of sites to avoid
incidentlly Fair Exchange are still running the win a £5,000 Spanish holiday comp on there site http://www.fair-exchange.com/reg/q/76027.html
if you decide to enter I wish you the very best of luck!
the myfamily site has been added on to my sites to avoid list and I won't be entering any of there competitions again0 -
I wonder how many entries those sites receive for those competitions.0

Re: the Classic Car magazine competitions recently posted by elver man and answer investigated by missielizzie!
I did post on one but didn't want to bump anymore so am posting the comment here.
Could be the Jan issue we have to wait for to find the answer, as they usually run a month ahead of the current date (ie. December is out in November etc...). What do you reckon? Is that logical or has my mellow birds got to me?!Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
