Thanks, Amilucky, for starting off this interesting discussion about sites knowing we've clicked through from MSE, and for the great advice you've given! (and thanks to everyone else who's added interesting info on the subject).

My comping is rather haphazard, compared to most of you, so haven't had many wins, but one thing I've noticed is that I've almost always won from entering via an email newsletter or directly from a site, eg a newspaper, mag.

Just wondering if others have noticed this with their wins, which would definitely confirm Amilucky's suspicions?!! :)
hi ive looked through my wins and most of them have been email entries and directly from a site only a handful from the link mmmmm im paranoid now:confused:or maybe it was just coninsidence this thred is intresting.nicx

Earlier today I came across a competition that had expired. As a newbie I have read the comping guides at the start of the forum but I checked again to see what the procedure was in this situation. I sent a pm to a board guide requesting that the post be moved to GAME OVER and also added a thread to the post advising people that the competition had expired. Another member of the forum kindly suggested I used the expiry button rather than pm-ing a board guide but unfortunately I cannot find any information on this in the comping guide and don't appear to have the relevant button. (The "spam" button is missing too.)

As a newbie I am unable to post a direct link or "clicky" to a comp until I have made a certain number of posts (not sure quite how many?). Is this also the case with the buttons?

Do I have to earn them? :D

Any advice would be greatly received.
  • Hi everyone,

Just wondered what advice was out there about multiple entries.

Some of the guys on here have won loads of prizes.... is the trick to winning making multiple entries via a few/tens/hundreds of different email accounts/phone numbers/alternative names?

Like everyone here I would like a good chance of winning so please please can the lucky ones share some of their "tricks of the trade".

    Have I grovelled enough ... lol :T

hi, speaking for myself, always think it's best to pm a BG to let them know, then they can check the link to make sure it's closed, sometimes peeps press the expired & it hasn't expired

  • Just wondered if I could make more than 1 entry in a competition so long as I used my real name and address but changed email addresses and phone numbers.

I'm sure I've read this somewhere in the comping guides.

Sorry to be a pain but if you dont ask you dont get to know.

no thats still breaking the rules and entering more than the one entry per person allowed.

I only enter each competition the allowed number of times normally once, but some comps do let you enter up to 5 times and I haven't done too bad with my wins, but bare in mind if you are new to comping the comps you enter now may not finish for a while. Yesterday for example I had a prize turn up that I won on the 11th June.
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.

I have had to remove the link otherwise I would not be able to post my reply (no links for newbies) -misslinda

Thank-you korkythekat. Yes it was that one - I will continue to pm the bgs if I come across an expired comp.

Still curious about my lack of buttons though. Is it because I'm a newbie?
I was also wondering if anyone knows how many posts I have to make before I can include a direct link or "clicky" to a comp?
Sorry for all the questions. I will get the hang of this eventually. :o

welcome to MSe and comping addiction MissLinda.

Its really nice to meet a newbie who has taken the time to read VGs guide, and to try and help the board out.

I think I have noticed links from posters with over 10/12ish posts, its not that high I think. Why not drop into the Compers Inn thread and have a chat, as you'll soon have enough posts then.

My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx
