laptop arrived so first things I need to do now before I give it to my siter please?my bark is worse than my bite!!!!!!!!0

Mine arrived - larger screen, 512mb and larger 6 cell battery for £350.88. First impressions are that it is excellent.
A question for those familiar with laptops.
The supplied mains adapter has an output of 19 volts DC. The handbook states that the 4 cell battery is 14+ volts and the 6 cell 11+ volts which presumably means the small battery has 4 cells in series and the larger 2 X 3 in series??
However although it says the AC voltage is 100-240v 50-60hz there is nothing I can find stating the required DC input voltage.
I want to use it in and aircraft and plug it into the power socket on the plane using a 'car cigar lighter' type of connecter. I believe that the output of these is 12v DC and I see many operating their laptops on the planes.
Does any one know what type of cable/adapter I need please?0 -
Depends on whether it came with McAfee or not. If no the first thing to do is to load on a firewall program, windows one is limited, Zonealarm is good and free. An antivirus is next, AVG is also free. There is a sticky at the top of the techi forum, go there first. You will also need Adaware, Ccleaner, Spyware blaster and Spybot S & D. These must be run at least once a week and updated before using. Its a fag but dead easy. Its a routine thats very important to help keep the computer running smoothly.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0

Does this PC have bluetooth? If not, what's the best was to connect to a mobile phone?0

I will be receiving my Inspiron 1300 tomorrow at a cracking price, so thanks to the original poster.
What I would like to ask is, though this is not the techie forum!, do I need anything extra to be able to receive Wireless Broadband. I am connected to NTL broadband, will I need a wireless router etc and if so which one would be best. Does this machine come supplied with a graphics card if not can one be added?..
Thanks in advance!A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

I told my husband about this. He phoned up Dell last weekend and after some arguing about the price and not wanting add ons he got it for £289 plus some other gadget he wanted- making it £301 in total. It arrived today and seems good. Strange screen though- its wide screen!
Thanks to the person who put the first post up.0 -
