Game it. Plan that lesson out in detail with a checklist with actions and times. You wouldn't do it for a normal lesson, but it's not a normal lesson. Go through that checklist like it's a script. Tick it off as you complete the sections, and keep on the schedule.

But I'm sure you said that at least one of them had went very well.

I did that before but got told off.

    I guess I could - i mean I wouldn't have to show him that bit - now I know its"wrong"

like its a script. I like that idea. I need something to hold on to. Its crazy I did this lesson twice last week and it went fantastically.

cos I have to fit a plenary in......
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Ok - so he IS there and he has to be.
Acknowledge his presence at the beginning - explain to your students. Look him in the eyes, smile and accept that he is there.
Then carry on as usual but make sure to include him in your visual sweep of the room now and then. Appear to look at him but aim your eyes a little above his head. Focus on 'friendly' students.
You do this every day and you do it well so you can do it again.

Imagine him nekkid Buffy, stick your boobs in the air and ACT confident ;)

Could you maybe bribe the students to be extra good/attentive too :D

When doing public speaking I use index cards with bullet points. Could you put them somewhere discreet as reminders and something to focus on?

Buffy, if you start to get nervous, imagine us lot behind you, cheering you on and being proud of you for handling such a difficult situation as well as you possibly can.

If that doesn't work, imagine us all ganging up on him and kicking his heed in! :D

That because they don't like you gaming their system. Tough.
    I guess I could - i mean I wouldn't have to show him that bit - now I know its"wrong"

It's not "wrong". If they want to focus on a metric, then it's not wrong to enhance that metric over other things. That is, after all, the point of focussing on measurable things. If they're the wrong measurable things - that's their problem, not yours.
