Car Scrapage Scheme "Unpopular"

i would never have considered buying a new car until this deal came up, having said that the car i bought has only been out about 2 years.
Before i had a vw bora bought it for 5000 pound and it was 2 years old when i bought it, then new the bora was about 15000 pounds, but the car i have currently bought even one 2 years old is about 15-16 thousand.
They reckon new car prices are dropping but second hand cars are holding the price thats why there are loads of articles on the net about new cars being cheaper than the second hand ones at the moment.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I tend to buy a one year old car from a car supermarket then drive it into the ground (about 10 years) until it starts to become unreliable, then repeat the cycle. When I first heard about this scheme I thought that the take up will only be from the mugs that buy new cars from showrooms.Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0

iv never bought from a car supermarket, i was going to buy form autoquake, ive heard some bad stories about them car supermarkets.
my advice to anone would be see what price you can get from a online broker, especially of you are going to buy a car a year old, you might be very surprised.I am not a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as not being a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. I always go to the same car supermarket at Slough I have virtually given up trying to buy cheaper as all I do is end up wasting my time, they offer such great deals on 1 year old cars (and others I assume but I prefer to buy one year old cars).
It was quite funny when I tried to trade in my old 9 year mondeo there last year, I wanted £400 for it but the guy said I really don't want your car but as you are an existing customer I'll knock another £100 off the car your buying for free. Car makers only have themselves to blame , the makers and the dealers put up their prices as soon as a scrappage deal was announced...negating any benefit.Car sales were already going down and they put up prices again that not business economics.
As some posters have said the car brokers are the way to go , then use a car buying service on top of thatto sell your under 3 year old vehicle if your not getting a trade in.
It worked in germany , mainly because it boosted sales when everyone else was in the downward spiral , nothing more heard about it other than a one month spike.
The german dealers never marked up , so it was a good deal. However it just goes to show you here the dealers and makers here want handouts , are sitting with stock in feilds that imo is able to be sold at a loss to reflate capital and extend loans , and both hmg and the dealer manf network is giving the driver the right royal are all in cahoots.
Forget voting anything other than a drivers party , get clarkson as the leader , and stop being the highest taxed car users in the world.
Every dealer I talked to in march/april never hit targets , have the reduced prices no.The same ones told me last year was a particularly bad year too.Have you tried turning it off and on again?0 -
This system was only introduced so Manufacturers could dump their stock.
Nothing more. Nothing less.Not Again0 -
Kia picanto is available for 4195 but unless its a tiny car it probably wont make sense.
I thought they'd offer 5 year 0% APR as well and that'd be worth buying new but I've not seen those deals
Mercedes offers 8k off list price or if you went with this scheme and scrap a car you'd get 2k off, hrm0 -
Well, it's been great for me. My 14 year old clio is knackered, and I've been saving up for a replacement. I set my heart on a Fiat 500, which isn't available at discount through online brokers. The 2k represents a saving of 20%, and I've got a brand new car of my dreams coming soon, full warranty, £35 a year tax...and I paid less than I would for a year old model with thousands on the clock.0

Whoa! The person who benefited from this scheme has posted on this forum! Those are about the only circumstances that make sense with this scheme.0 -
