This is from the site of an ambulance trust of when it would be appropriate to call an ambulance:
Here are some examples of where an ambulance might be needed:
    • Suspected heart attack
    • Serious injury
    • Chest pain
    • Unconsciousness
    • Heavy blood loss
    • Severe breathing difficulties

Life threatening conditions - a broken arm is NOT life threatening generally.
More to the point if the condition was obviously too serious to be moved without paramedic assistance and intervention then why did the OP not call them herself when she arrived instead of driving the child herself?
5 minutes away from hospital or not - if it was sufficiently obvious that it was serious then surely an ambulance would be called to minimise distress and pain to the child no matter how close to A&E it was?

The ambulances are overstretched as it is and often get slated for not getting to lifethreatening incidents quick enough - when people call them for non-lifethreaning incidents then it's no wonder really... And as someone who's seen the story from both sides I know I'd not call them for a broken arm unless it was an open fracture or unstable fracture - both very obvious and in either case I am sure the OP would have not tried to move her child herself when she arrived.

Where is OP, I'm interested in what the school had to say and how the issue has been resolved.

Me too, OP has started a thread on another board, maybe we should pop over there and ask her?!

It was intended to be lighthearted - sorry if I gave you the wrong impression.

It is a shame when people post for advice on something and share a problem, people then take the time to give their opinions and advice but then the OP does not come back and share the outcome.

    I didn't
hence i didn't say that you did!

but i think others have now hammered their own point home enough and i certainly wasn't expecting the OP to come back with an update!

The only reason I originally posted on this thread was the OP going off on one shouting at people when they posted the counter-view to her argument and I wasn't going to let a complete "I want to bash this school publicly for doing things by their policy and no one's going to shout me down or argue with me or I'll go off on them" thread go without sticking up for a school that I think took a lot of stick for doing things the right way (whether you think that what we have to do in education is the right thing or not is another matter - I've got my own views on some of the "policies" we have to follow LOL).

Was never expecting an update once they didn't get the wave of pink fluffy "oh the school is so evil" reinforcement they wanted.

Personally, I find it quite alarming that someone with such little understanding of emergency procedure has a decision making role in a school.

excuse me but I think thats getting a little bit personal! If the government has failed to adequately fund the NHS properly, that is not my problem!!!!!!!!! so stop having a go at me!

I have given my view! MY VIEW, not professionally but what I feel COULD have been done.

I completey understand that the NHS resources are overstreched. And yes an ambulance may seen unjustifiable in certain circumstances.

But for me I felt it was justifiable as the child was so small. I know others may not agree, but what happened to freedom of speech

I may not be an experianced governor or experianced with the school protocols but atleast im supporting my local school which is more then I can say for some. thankyou

I gave my point of view,

The only reason I originally posted on this thread was the OP going off on one shouting at people

Hmm....I thought her responses were very calm and collected bearing in mind pages of quite hostile responses.....Can't see any shouting.

Anyway - As I said before, I think she got the point a long time ago. But people have to go on and on and on and on.......
