It's a worthy cause but... do you have evidence that any number of signatures on a "Number 10 petition" will have any effect whatsoever?

I ask, because I signed a similar, equally worthy one recently, which called for action to prevent quarrying from destroying SSSIs on the Portland coast. By the time it had closed, it had received thousands of signatures.

Three months later, "Number 10" posted a response, which had obviously been written by someone purely so that they could say that they had responded. The response contained lots of words, but effectively said nothing - it had no doubt been written by some faceless flunky with no authority, and it was quite clear that "Number 10" had no intention of doing anything as a result.

IMO it's a purely cosmetic exercise so that they can say "we are listening" - it's the online equivalent of the Suggestions Box that gets emptied into the waste bin by the cleaner at the end of each day.

I actualy agree with you there, but with the media coverage this topic has had , plus the fact that recently the Copyright, Design and Patent Act has been subjected to a "consultation" with the view to reform but was not publicised so very few views apart from the "music industry" were received, I think it may well make them think twice before accepting PRS's reform choice that is, of course, to give them carte blanche to charge who so ever they choose!

I beleive that we have to take any oportunity to make known our views and siince the consultation has now finished, this was the only way I knew how!

Could I respectfully request you drop the constant bumping - I keep expecting to see there's been some news or someone else's experiences or opinions when I see this thread's been updated. At current rate you're going to take another 9 months to reach your 500 signatures - I think you've probably got everyone here that's ever going to do it.

Going to get a bit annoying bumping this every few days for 9 months though isn't it. Are you publicising this anywhere else?

The Federation of Small Businesses forum, but have asked for other suggestions of where to post this. It runs till November but will give up on bumping before that unless I get more info on the result of the Consultaion process I mentioned earlier.

    Any Ideas?

I support the PRS. Can I register an anti-signature?

The petition is actualy asking for a definative answer to a definative question. ALL parties would benefit from that, so a signature on the petition is not a vote against the PRS but a request for clarification!:D
