My contract is due to expire on the 15th April. I called them up on the 9th and just spoke to the upgrade team. The person was lovely and really helpful. We spent an hour looking at my options and it ended with her suggesting that I look at Sim only and looking at other netowrk providers.

I called again on the 11th April and spent over an hour on the phone to O2. This time I went through to retensions. They offered me a slightly better deal but couldn't match the deal with T-mobile for an 18 month contract with the new Nokia Lumia that I had discovered. It's £1 more expensive to stick with O2 for another 18 months.

I decided to actually leave O2 unless they could at least match the deal which they were not willing to do, so finally after 12/ 13 years of being O2. I'm leaving.

I am genuinely sad that they didn't try and make a better offer on the contract as I've been a loyal customer. All I wanted to do is cut the costs of my spending on my mobile, I'm also having a few issues with my current phone which is an iphone which was the reason I was looking to upgrade otherwise I would have gone with a sim only contract. When I moved to O2 all those years ago it was from T-mobile as I found the reception and customer service bad then. I just hope it's improved.

    I'm worried I'm making a mistake.

I don't understand that if you have had issues with T-Mobile in the past, you didn't just stick with O2 for the sake of £1? Especially if the service and signal where you are is better with O2.

If you do leave O2, you should really get hold of a free PAYG SIM from T-Mobile before you commit so you can test the signal at the places you normally are (home, work, friends' homes, pub etc).

    Totally agree

    .

I had issues with them as I was a one to one customer. The customer service went down when it became T-Mobile. I would hope that the issues I had then would have improved.

I've been on PAYG with T-Mobile for a couple of years as I had a Sim Free phone. I've been happy with the service, especially the good signal I get almost everywhere. However I fancied getting the new HTC One phone, which is quite expensive to buy outright, so I looked at some contract deals. I was disappointed to see that T-Mobile weren't as competitive as other networks, and worse the employees in their store were absolutely useless and unwilling to haggle.

So I resigned myself to moving to Three for a £34 per month contract where the phone would be free. I'd get 500 minutes, 5000 texts and unlimited data.

I called T-Mobile to get my PAC code and got put through to their "PAC Department", aka their MemberSave department :D, so I decided to see what they could do to keep me.

Immediately I was offered the same phone for £28.50 per month, getting 2000 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data. There would be a one of cost of £29.99 for the phone. I later found out that this is their Full Monty 36 deal advertised on their website, with a £7.50 per month reduction on the contract cost and a £40 reduction on the phone cost. That equates to a whopping £220 saving from the online advertised deal. And £102 saving over the Three deal, without having to change network and with 1500 extra minutes per month.

To get this deal all I had to do was tell them why I was leaving and what the other deal was. There wasn't even a need to negotiate as they will do all the work for you. I did consider pushing for further savings but I was happy enough with the deal and I didn't have a huge amount of time to spend of the phone.

So if anyone is considering leaving T-Mobile I suggest doing the exact same as I did and seeing what deal you can get.

If you are happy with the reception and service, there is no need to change. I tried with different suppliers, and found that some were not as good as others, especially considering reception on the move and commute.

My 12 month Orange SIM only rolling contract expires next week. For £15.50 I was just getting 600 minutes and unlimited texts. When calling to renew I managed to get 1000 minutes, unlimited texts, 250mb of data for just £11 a month.

From persisting with the person on the phone after reading Martin's article, they were unable to add any extras to this as they could only do the advertised package, but they advised me to ring again and to choose any other option to speak to somebody else and ask for more usage for being a loyal customer (last 13 years) and I ended up with 2GB of data usage. I thought 'don't ask don't get' so also asked for free answerphone calls as this used to really increase my bill and they agreed! Result!:j

    Evening people!

I'm currently with Virgin ending the end of my contract - had a look at the bills and recalculated that I'm using less than I thought! Had a look at deals for newer handsets to replace the one I've had for 18 mths or so, found myself drawn to the S3...anyway to cut to the point:

Virgin's contracts for the S3 are almost double what I can get if I switch, so is it really worth haggling?

Just switch, get PAC code and keep your number.
