Apologies I quoted their old prices.

    New prices:

    Tier 1 - 21.672p/kwh
    Tier 2 - 9.371p/kwh

    Is this 10% less?

If the old prices were as you quoted above (Tier 1 - 22.461p/kwh
    Tier 2 - 10.509p/kwh) then it is an 8.8% reduction for 3,300kWh.

As the Tier 2 price has reduced by 10.8% above average(i.e.3,300kWh) users could have 10% reduction.

You stated "British Gas remain by far the most expensive in my area, even with the 10% cut." that is very different from 'not the cheapest.'

In any case there are more factors to be considered.

BG only charge 500kWh pa on tier 1. Most other companies charge 900kWh pa.

    Discount for paying by DD?

For myself(Midlands) BG Websaver 3 is by a long way the cheapest tariff for 3,300kWh pa - the next cheapest(EDF Energy on-line 6) is approx 8% more expensive.

Over to you and your spreadsheet;)

BGs tariffs are always cynically optimised to be at their cheapest at the 'average' consumption of 20,500 gas and 3300 leccy. Stray from those figures with your *actual* usage and they tend to fall away from the top of the switching sites. For instance, on my usage (4800 kwhs) in Yorkshire EDF Online 6 is STILL cheaper than Websaver 3. Expect EDF to retaliate as well, the French Govt. have always prided themselves on their very competitive leccy prices, lol.

Okay, so now I am totally confused (doesn't take much, please don't shout at me!)

Please can someone tell me whether I am best sticking with Click 6, or moving to websaver 3?

    Thanks muchly

    Daisy

PS I HATE the way BG constantly changes its on-line tariffs leaving customers to play catch-up. If they weren't the cheapest for me I'd be off like a shot.

I was a little surprised at that.

On Energyhelpline for a Leeds postcode(which I assume is in Yorkshire for electricity?) for 4,800kWh electricity only, payment by DD it shows BG websaver3 as as cheapest and quite a bit cheaper than EDF??

Apologies, you are of course entirely correct and I am entirely incorrect :o Yes, just re-launched energyhelpline and Websaver 3 is indeed cheaper than EDF Online by approx 25 quid on 4800 kwhs usage. Interesting. I wonder if EDF will respond? I have a feeling they might.

Thank you Iconic for reminding me to submit my reading for today, I just did that online which as my last reading was estimated was worthwhile even without the price change.

    Just checked my new prices.

    Old prices:
    Tier 1 - 25.117p
    Tier 2 - 11.587p

    New prices:
    Tier 1 - 23.903p
    Tier 2 - 10.373p

    Tier 1 decrease of 4.8%
    Tier 2 decrease of 10.5%

Loving British Gas at the moment, I signed up in July for the Price guarantee 2009 tariff and they have put me on that tariff for my gas but left me on the standard tarrif for electric so I have benefited from the electric price drop!

Just got an email from BG:

    Dear Penrhyn

In February we were the first energy supplier to cut our gas prices. The great news is we’re now cutting our electricity prices too and they’re now on average the cheapest1 Standard prices in Britain.
Our price cuts are bigger than any other major energy supplier’s
Our commitment to give you competitive prices means that our electricity price drop is bigger than any other major energy supplier’s. And as a Click Energy 6 customer your prices are now, on average, £682 less than our Standard tariff because of your Click discount.
We understand that your home is your world which is why we remain committed to giving you competitive prices and a great service.
Thank you for being a British Gas customer which is very much appreciated.

Why is always the "standard" tarrifs that get discounted?

I think its disgusting that other BG customers get nothing if they don't pay by direct debit  they could offer 5% ...if they wanted to
