I suppose you could look at it this way:
if the local "yoofs" are spending all their time trying to pop homer/santa, they're not trying to nick stuff out of the offy! Probably saves them a fortune ;)

My youngest is now 20 years old but still expects a choccy advent calender!  (and a stocking!!)  The 27 year old expects that as well!!  Does this mean I went wrong somewhere or does it mean that they have great memories of Christmas past and want them to continue?
    ::)

Well catznine, I am between your two chilldren, age wise, and I love Christmas more now than I did when I was little! I love trying to choose the perfect present and the fact that it is a real family time. As out family is scattered across the UK, we try and make the most of the holiday together. ;)

Another tradition is getting to open a 'family' present on Christmas eve. Very often it is a bored game to keep our minds off santa's imminent arrival! ::)

I love the idea of a family pressie on Christmas Eve! It is never too late to start family traditions either!

I married into a family with a very strict rule about not opening pressies until after dinner on Christmas Day, Imagine!! :o So I made stockings for the children and then quite recently for ourselves! These are for the morning and what is under the tree is for after dinner. They are all allowed one pressie each in the morning (normally a book to keep them quiet)
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

he up again, goes up and down like a brides nightie. ;D will update you everytime he goes down.
  • I think homemade calendars are a wonderful gift to your children and they can either cost a lot or a little.

I bought mine from Sainsburys Homebase (2.99 reduced) and have decided to put in a variety of things. I have told them the calendar will contain Tokens, Tasks and Treats.

A token for example is a punched out star, for instance they have to collect 3 (which I will add on different days) to exchange it for a magazine or single CD. Another might be for a particular activity that the whole family have to join in.

A task is a note that will be a little treasure hunt to find an activity book, colouring, craft activity, decoration for the tree or such like.

A treat again (as the pockets are too small) they will have a note with a clue to find a little treat or a note to say they can visit the pictures/meal out or something else (which to be honest we would do anyway).

I know it's a lot of work but hopefully the kids will enjoy it and the treats/tokens can be as small or as big as you want them.

    Happy christmas everyone!

    J :D

    scrappee,

That is a wonderful idea - like an advent stocking!! ;)

I think that I'll have to suggest that for next Christmas.

Well, My first chocolate tasted good this morning - and I get to burn the first part of my advent candle tonight. ;D All very exciting.
