Advent Calendar

Advent calendars (especially chocolate ones :P) can be really expensive.

I've just found a site to Make your own fabric advent calendar.

It has little pockets in it that you can put sweets in.

It might cost more than a normal advent calendar first year but it will last for years and must save a fortune in the long run and, if you don't like kids having chocolate you can put something else in (maybe a different coloured crayon for little ones then some paper in 24)

160 - you could use your buttons to button up each day ;)
When life hands you a lemon, make sure you ask for tequilla and salt ;)

Mother-in-law bought us one when the first child was born. Yes they do cost a bit more than a disposable one but you soon recoup the cost, particularly as you don't need one for each child. Just shove in as many chocs as kidz. If you shop arround you can get them for about £6 but I can't remember where I saw them.

Carrying on from 160's Button fetish, you could loop some gold thread through the buttons and then hang them on the tree after taking from the calendar. ;);)

    I've been Money Tipped!
I bought a lovely one from Barnardos, if in a hurry I just put foil covered choc coins into the pockets, they go down very well!
Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind.

I have a sort of advent calendar from Avon. It's a chimney with santa in it & a load of sticks with the date on. You pull out a stick every day & santa gradually drops further down the chimney until he appears in the grate on the 24th. I think it cost about £6, but you get years out of it.

Did anyone else used to have the same advent calendar every year when they were kids? Chocolate ones didn't exist in those days & we weren't allowed to rip the doors off. After christmas they used to go under a heavy pile of books til next year to close all the doors again.

We used the same Advent Calander for 20yrs and it had to be shared between my sister and I ;D
Dec 1st was a picture of a trumpet Dec 2nd a drum Dec 3rd Holly Dec 4th Christmas pudding Dec 5th A gift.... I could probably remember all 24 if I put my mind to it. 20 years is long enough to have them scorched into my memory. My sister often laughs about that old calendar, especially as she lives in Texas and if ya kidz havn't got the biggest and best then "your a drunk and an unfit mother swellen!" ;D
