I already have 1899.com and from my mobile i'm sure its free to call 0800 anyhow.

Ring a local rate number for 1899 so it comes out my free minutes. So not sure whats so revolutionary about this 0800buster really?

Won't you pay a connection fee (typically 3p to 5p) for calling 0800 using 1899 , 18185 etc ?

Dial Phone Direct on 0202 220 900 - Similar deal, just type in your number when prompted. I've used this for ages and it's a cracking service, that's billed as your free minutes or a standard land line call...

I'm guessing this doesn't work for 0845 numbers? Would be useful if I have to call Virgin....

I'm using 0200-2220700(pre-dial) since more than 2 years to make calls to 0800 from UK mobiles.No problems at all as long as you don't press the #key at the end.

The QX one will work for 0845 etc if you mostly call 0800 and occasionally call the 0845/0844. Basically, it gives you points when you call 0800/0808 numbers and then you can spend the points on the occasional 0845/0870 calls.

0870,0845 etc are 0.35p+ a minute on some networks. again 1899.com offers

I posted on this thread, but take no credit for making the original post. I was just commenting on someone else's post.

Personally I prefer using the saynoto0870 site to find a geographical number.
Or to find a free phone number if I'm using a land-line. It's never let me down.

1899 (and 18185 etc) DO NOT connect to free numbers, only 0844, 0845, 0870, 0871, etc.

For those wanting to store an 0800 (etc) number with the landline number first on a Nokia phone, push the * button FOUR times after the first landline number and you'll see a w - for wait. This will cause the phone to WAIT until the first call is answered before it continues dialling. (This is also useful for logging in to automated systems, although don't use it for a password!)
