    Great thanks!!
I accepted a phone job in an area near me in the last wave and when I called to check the opening hours was told that the phone concession was no longer in that store. I emailed GAP and told them and they cancelled it.
So being an idiot the same job appeared today and i accepted it...DUH!!!
I know I was an idiot to apply for job in a site that is no longer there but surely GAP should not have listed it again!!??

Gap have had the same "Temporary Unit" down for one of their coffee shops at the airport since early last year, and the new one opened last summer!

I've let them know three times, but I give up................................

I'm annoyed because I took a competitor job in Lichfield, and the name of the shopping centre it was in wasn't familiar... so I googled it. It was in !!!!!!ing Tamworth! So I had to cancel it, and I'm NOT pleased, I've already had to cancel a few too many jobs with GAP as it is.
So I take it that Lichfield and Tamworth aren't near each other?

  • Leave it there ... then on the day you're meant to do it, email Gap and tell them you visited in good faith and the store wasn't there so you still expect to be paid. They've paid up for me a couple of times in this situation.

hmmmm tempted to do that but would they not cotton on that its been cancelled for me before at my request??

They are near (but not near enough to be interchangeably named), but not if you're reliant on public transport and you're supposed to be in Lichfield anyway for another job, and you already have a job down the road from Lichfield to also do.

Does anyone else feel that the alerts thread is a little too busy with "a retail shop in the outer hebridies" type alerts?

I thought the original aim for the thread was a bit more like "retail shops just released on RE" - where more than one person had a chance of getting it.

As someone who doesn't do shops unless I'm called by the company or I see one on the offchance on a site, it doesn't bother me too much but I remember the days when I'd get the email on my phone, race back home/to a computer only to find it was nothing worth worrying about. That was annoying when that happened but it must be worse nowadays!!

I'm trying not to upset the people who do post there as I'm grateful as a lot of people are - just thought I'd mention it.

    Any thoughts anyone?

I agree entirely! As someone who subscribes to the alerts thread and gets an email every time something is posted I'm logging on every 10 minutes and as you say sometimes it's just someone saying there's a phone job Little Piddlington.

Maybe the consensus could be that we keep it for releases of a retailer rather than an odd job and that we don't bother posting things for GfK or GR as you get an email anyway. I agree about Aba-i as I picked up 3 branches of the discount hardware store because their email can quite often be a few hours later and we know they tend to release large batches at once, so has relevance to most people.

Perhaps if most of us think this is sensible it could be added to the OP? Also might be worth adding "please read through to see if what you are about to post mhas already been posted". We've had a duplicate posting already tonight.

I don't think that we need to get as irate as some of those on the cinema alerts thread do, but the idea of an alerts thread is that people subscribe to it and get an email.

By the way, I think the opposite of someone posting about a job that's been around for ages - why would that be an alert? It's hardly something new, is it?

I have never gained any benefit from the GR and Gfk posts as the only time I ever get any job offers from those companies I get emailed directly to tell me there is work available. Many times I have tried logging on in response to an Alerts post only to find there is nothing.

I have had lots of benefit from GR alerts. I have found that if I wait for the email, nine times out of ten the jobs have gone. They may only email a few people but in my experience it is still fastest finger first. I agree about GFK though, the jobs seem to stay there until I accept/decline & I can take a day or so to decide if needs be.

I think the most annoying things on the alerts thread are:

    1) Repeats, where people just post without checking what has already been posted.
    2) The obscure one off jobs that (as Timmne says) are only available to a very small minority.
    3) The clues that are soooo cryptic, you have to be mastermind to decipher them :o.
    4) And alerts for jobs that have hanging around for weeks and are not new at all!

All in all though, the alerts are very valuable. Most of the jobs are fastest finger first and despite what one poster thinks (sorry, can't remember who), most of us do MS to earn much needed money. So any tip offs are much appreciated :T.

Clues shouldn't even be cryptic really, they should just state the type of store IMO.

Can I just see how others on here interpret these assignment times please? It seems a very odd way of writing it, this is what they put... " < 1130 - > 1430 ".

I think I know what they are trying to say, just say what you see and I'll see if the consensus is with me or not! Ta...
