Has anyone had an email from a company (initials BH) that has apparently got all our details from B**E in a shopper exchange? How odd!

Bare obviously not heard of the Data Protection Act then.0 -
I got this email too and am not very happy about giving my NI number to them. I've emailed Bare to ask them if they have an association with this company but don't expect to receive a reply until tomorrow. I'll let you all know what they say when I get a reply.
I'm not particularly happy with them sharing my information full stop...Disabled student desperately trying to earn some money...!0 -
I'm just planning to send an email to BARE and Beyond Hello about this - firstly saying that, if it is genuine, the way they have written it sounds dodgy (NI number?), and if it is genuine, they might be in breach of my rights under DPA, and I'd like them to arrange for my data to be removed. The only problem is, they are (I believe) based in the US, and the DPA only applies if the company is based in or the data processing centre is located in the UK.
Edit: Having read the DPA properly, they might not have breached my rights, I'm not really sure. Wonder which year I do DPA at uni?Dan

I've also emailed Bare as I think it is out of order. They should have, at least, had the courtesy to let us know. I'm not entering my NI number, they don't need it and I'm sure I didn't give it to Bare.0

They shared everything, even my password. it says in the email use your bare p/w. I went to the beyond hello site and said "email me my password" just to check if they had my p/w. And sure enough they emailed me my bare password. I logged in and my profile was all filled out just changed phone codes instead of post codes. There were no jobs just one in Oxford (i think). I did not enter any NI no.0

I think, assuming this is genuine (and it does seem to be), that this is a really immoral thing to do - we should be able to choose which companies we do and don't sign up to. There is a better way to go about this - send everyone an email saying "we're in partnership with this company, we'd be really grateful if you'd sign up to them". I don't think wholesale sending of the information is right at all.Dan

Just been in my local off license (the one RE sometimes do). There was a new member of staff training and while I was browsing, the manager was telling her all about Mystery Shoppers, and explaining that last time the shop got a good report (I did it I think!) and that you can tell the Mystery Shopper because they always spend ages browsing and then ask for a receipt. So I spent ages browsing, and then when she'd rung my goods up said "Can I have a receipt for these please?"
You should have seen the look of horror on the manager's face!Happy New Year :beer:0 -
I got the email, too and like many others, I am not too thrilled. I thought it was a bit dodgy anyway, but even if it's legit I think it's highly unethical. What right do they have to share our details with a third party?
Bare have a UK office, don't they? Shouldn't they be subject to the DPA?0 -

As I read it, they are only subject to the DPA if they are registered in the UK or they process data in the UK. I believe they're based in Belgium for Europe?Dan
