  • i note all the posts date back to 2009 but wondered if anyone still having problems with this company as my daughter is currently in dispute with them as one of their clients crashed into her stationary car and they will not accept phone calls from her insurance company and will only correspond in writing however they are failing to respond to emails and letters sent by her insurance company who have now had to involve a solicitor, luckily my daughter has a reputable insurance company and is fully comp with legal protection thank goodness, however the distress and aggravation caused by this by something that wasn't her fault is awful, please steer clear of this company
  • Hi all,
An advanced warning not to use 1st Central insurance. Impossible to contact them and poor customer service.
I have used them and been a loyal customer of theirs for a number of years but was today charged £60.00 to just change address and remove a named driver. They claim I have to pay an 'admin fee'.
This is despite the fact throughout all my policy term lengths I have NEVER made a claim.
I actually also called them to not only renew my policy but to also insure an additional car.
    Not insuring with them again.
Hopefully one of the senior management will see this post and reply to me with some common sense and decency!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Although you are probably better to be rid of them (read the thread!) your reason for leaving is groundless.

Charging admin fees for mid term changes is the norm.
  • Don't think you will find it is Quentin. I've changed addresses in multiple insurance policies prior to this and NEVER been charged an admin fee.
You can change your address on your driving licence for free. Your bank, utility bills etc? So why should 1st central charge for 30 seconds of typing?

I was referring to making mid term changes to motor insurance policies!

When you change addresses that will usually trigger a premium adjustment ( up or down).

If it's down then the admin charge is deducted from any refund due, maybe making seem there's no administration charge involved.
  • So let me get this straight. If lets say I just so happen to move house say five times within the space of a year therefore Im having to call up and inform my insurance company five times which should from what your saying mean that in total Im going to have to pay£150.00 in admin charges???

Correct plus any change to premium - this could be up or down depending on the postcode

Yes. As already posted admin fees are the norm.

There are a few (abnormal) companies that don't charge mid term adjustment admin fees. (This is reflected in the initial premium!)
  • we changed banks and didn't get online facility in time to switch direct debits in the time frame for 1st central. We received letter 5th April and only had 11 days to sort out? We often go away for 3 weeks so could have been driving without insurance for weeks, had an accident occurred it doesn't bear thinking about. My wife phoned them to pay by card but was told her insurance had now been cancelled so she cant drive her car plus we owe £97 for the the privilege. AVOID this company they do NOT treat customers fairly and only after making money through charging. She phoned them but they were very unhelpful and dismissed her completely. We have been driving over 40 yrs and are accident free so will take our business back to Admiral.

It may be for some companies but £60 is a lot of money especialy to a pensioner.
