I feel a bit of a tit falling for the 'cheapness' of their quote.. Things are obviously cheap for a reason..

For a amusement, ask them to advise you exactly where it says in their policy that the other car must be insured

Lol I have done and this is a living nightmare- no-one seems to know. I've looked through the details and it says nothing about the other car having to be insured. The problem I currently have is can I drive another car under my policy if that car is not insured and can it be parked legally on the road without being seized? Even the police cannot seem to advise me on this.

They have a very high turnover of staff, try googling 1stcentral jobs as they are constantly advertising and don't pay good wages.

Direct them to this part of the policy

" If indicated by your Certificate of Motor Insurance, and whilst you are driving any other car, the Insurer will
cover you for any accident involving this car, for all amounts you are legally liable to pay if someone else is
injured or killed or their property is damaged. The following conditions must be met for this cover to apply:
You must obtain prior permission from the owner of the car
You are still in possession of your car, and it has neither been damaged beyond economical repair nor
    stolen
The other car is not owned by you (and is not a rental car, or hired to you under a hire purchase or
    leasing agreement)
You are not named as a driver of the other car on any Certificate of Motor Insurance
You are not using this cover to remove the car in the event it has been seized by, or on behalf of, any
    government or public authority
No greater level of cover is in force to cover you to drive the car under any other policy"

As it does not state it in the policy, then the other car does not need to be insured. An insurance policy is a contract, as with any other contract, if they want a term in the contract they have to state it.

Refer them to this part of their policy and ask them how they expect to enforce something that is not in their policy

They have a bit in the policy about the car needing to have an MOT which is completely unenforcable. We had a poster who had a problem with an accident and not having an MOT and they backed down when presented with evidence they cannot enforce it.

As a general rule, it's best to avoid insurers that are based in Gibralter especially if their name is 1st Central

I agree with many previous posters and wish I had read this thread first... AVOID THIS COMPANY.
I took out a policy, filling everything in on a web form, including 2 non-fault accidents. Got a quote and then my policy.
I then sent in my NC document from SwiftCover (highly recommended) and 1st Central emailed me saying they had no record of a second no-fault claim and accordingly my premium is to be upped by £4.11 and this will cost me £50 in admin. Shocking!

I have disputed by email this alleged non-disclosure and have asked for proof by supplying me with the details I provided to get the initial quote (they are not, to my knowledge, available from a web site or anywhere). They have not done this and now are threatening to cancel my policy and charging me £75 for the privilege! :(

Any advice? Mine is stay well clear of this shoddy outfit!

Update: I spoke to customer services and they refused to budge on the admin fee and said I need to write a letter to them to get them to disclose the information I supplied to obtain the quote. I want nothing more to do with this company so I cancelled the cover (more fees) and feel better for it!
  • They are by far the lowest quote
RAC is 2nd at £130 more with £200 more excess too.
The others are too pricey to even consider - double or more!

I've read a tremendous amount of horrific reviews by both companies. Don't know what to do - might have to risk it.

I was with them a few years ago and I had a bad experience.

When you insure with them you are basically taking a gamble. If you have to claim or make any changes to your policy you will bitterly regret taking a policy with them.

If you don't need to contact them throughout the year then everything will be fine. It depends how much of a risk you are willing to take.
  • Aviva seem to do a similar price - worse excess but it's close enough for my peace of mind. If there is one thing I hate more than anything else in the world it is hassle. Thanks

Try reducing the excess on the Aviva policy, sometime it does not affect the premium

I decieded to go with first central after receiving a quote, worst decision ever!! after paying the deposit i received a letter just before my first payment was due out stating that my insurance was going up £350 with a rediculas £50 admin fee due to a accident i had the previos year which they already knew about as this was a renewal and i had been with first central the previous year!

How could they of made such a oversite especially with this being a reniewal they would of already had all this information logged onto the system. If I had of known about the extra I would of gone with another insurance company especially as the customer service is disgusting. I will never use this company again! BEWARE PEOPLE ONLY USE IF YOU WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF
