Kindertons were trying to arrange a Credit Hire which basically they hire you a car at an inflated rate and you sign a credit agreement agreeing to pay them if they cannot recover the hire costs from the other side.

They pay 1st Central a tidy commission for hiring a car out.

If your car is repairable 1st central's garage should be arranging a courtesy car
  • Hi, like everybody else here i have had a really scary time with 1st Central and i am not going to bore you with all the details, same old, same old - however having read through all these messages with utter dismay i wrote to Tom (PM)and was extremely surprised and delighted to receive an email and a phone call within a couple of hours.

They promised me the letter i needed to progress my case and i got it in the next days post delivery - I am now fairly confident that settlement is underway - their actions prior to this were completely unacceptable and my claim has been active for a couple of months but hopefully i am on the home run.

I can only suggest that when all attempts fail, do as i did (following other people's advice) and write to Tom.
  • Hi All, I too wish I had found this website first before I took out insurance with 1st central.I have now cancelled my policy within the 14 days. Did everyone else who did this get there deposit back? and how long did it take?
    Thanks
  • finally two and a half weeks later, my car has been picked up ready for assesment by a garage..............

    Hi all

    Just a warning really...

..please be aware that we've just been advised 1st central car insurance policies do not give drivers 3rd party cover on other cars even if they have fully comp policies and are over 25.

As far as I'm aware this is standard on most policies but we nearly got caught out when we called them back to double check the policy we'd just purchased. You can't pay extra fo it either!

Hope nobody gets caught out! We've just cancelled within the 14 day cooling off period - just hope they promptly refund the premium that we paid in full! Fingers crossed!
    Ells

    Hi,

I'm a newbie round here so hate that my first post is a moan but....

I'd like to echo the thoughts of most people on this forum and recommend that people do not purchase your car insurance with 1st Central.
The price they offer is great but it comes at a cost.
They are a difficult company to deal with. So far a have on three separate occasions spent a total of 140mins on the phone to them all without satisfactory resolution as when you get through, the person can only take a message and get somebody to ring you back. WHICH THEY DON'T.
I understand call centres can be busy so tried e mailing I waited a week to get a response which told me somebody would call me..

My car has now been sitting at the garage for 2 weeks, and I hadn't a clue what was going on until I contacted the garage direct only to be told that they too where waiting to hear form 1st central.

I am self employed and being without a vehicle is costing me money on a daily basis and the longer they draw this out the more it costs me. I have had to hire a car twice in order to work which has cost me about £180. Money I can ill afford in these troubled times.
And to add insult to injury I am being told the courtesy car I will be issued with is a Nissan Micra which is simply too small for me. I could cope for a few days but the vandalism that has happened to my car means I will be with out the vehicle for 4-5 weeks.

I found them through gocompare.com and am surprised such a good website would deal which such an awful company good prices or not!

So a word of warning to you all you get what you pay for.

    Alan

  • Had an accident, phoned 1st centeral 0800 number, got it booked within 5 minutes of calling. Waited a week for the accident repair center to have a spare slot to collect the car picked it up. Called them today to hear an unsatisfactory time for the estimation to be done. Phoned 1st centeral 0845 number, got through within 3 minutes who said they would change garage for me. So far I don't see what the big deal is but I am expecting my car to be written off so I will let you know how that goes.

I have a policy with 1st central, havnt needed to claim (hope it stays this way) so cant comment on this part of business but they provided a good quote and I was happy with the process of documents, also scanning in details and emailing them was easy and they replied to the email very quickly, so, sofar things have gone smoothly for me, nice to hear the good side of this company...to me its more reassuring than everyone with one post posting negative comments

How does the number of posts that someone has made make their complaint any less legitimate?

Also, the vast majority of complaints relate to claims service and issues. You haven't made a claim so how does that make you an expert?
All matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves.
