Can you clarify please. You said pay £5 and internet access is unlimited, then went on to say "or 1gb". Is it unlimited or is there in fact a limit of 1gb?

It means 1GB fair use policy.

The 3 website says it supports the phone, but the link sent in the text doesn't work.

The handset might be faulty. If you bought it from CPW, take it back for exchange (within 28 days) or repair. Otherwise contact your retailer for the same.

Well, seemingly it has to be a branded 3 phone. Meaning the opening post saying it works in any compatible unlocked handset is a bit misleading :/
If you put a 3 SIM card into a 3G* mobile from another network you can still make calls, send messages and access the internet, but you can't access Skype.

We’re working hard to fix this. Our aim is that over the next few months customers will be able to insert their 3 SIM card into any popular unlocked 3G mobile and automatically get the right settings for the 3 network. Plus you’ll also receive a link to download the correct version of Skype on 3 – so you can have free Skype-to-Skype minutes forever.

It is important to note that the Skype mobile client must be the version which comes directly from 3 (rather than any other source) in order to be able to get free Skype-to-Skype calls forever

    Hi Stefarno

Yes initially it will need to be a 3 branded handset, you can get the correct internet setting for yours if you call cs, they will text them thru, the problem is companies like Carphone and P4U buy generic stock direct from the manufacturor and connect them to any network so any network specific stuff like skype will not work, take it back if you can and go to a 3store and you will get the same deal
  • To summarise, if you have a non-3 branded phone then you need to wait for three to sort things out.

Although it looks like you ought to be able to do it all manually...

If your non-3 phone can't even access the three network because it doesn't have the relevant service settings then go to this web page:
    three.co.uk/Help_Support/About_my_mobile/Software_settings
click on the Over The Air link to have service configuration details texted to your phone.

Once your phone is configured, go to this web page on your PC:
    three.co.uk/_popup/Skype
to see if your handset is supported. From here you can get three to text you a link (mobile6.three.co.uk/sdf/portskype) to download and install their Skype from your phone.

Unfortunately, I don't have a phone that's listed on this page.
I'd be interested to find out if anyone has success with this latter part.

(Sorry about the lack of live links but new users aren't allowed to include links in posts!)

Cheers Dylski, but it still doesn't work, that's basically where I got upto.

I just feel there should be a mention in the opening post, as it's a bit misleading currently.

Only certain phones are 'skype enabled' handsets', and they need to be newish. My N70 is incompatible. I was on 3 in the past, service was good, never had any probs (apart from when I wanted to terminate contract) then I moved abroad. I'm going back to the UK and need a simcard, any free offers around? I've got a link to the 3 one, I found online but is it worth it? The coverage used to be quite good in my area, but if it's changed and is now rubbish then that's bad news. My phone is unlocked so can accept any simcard.
  • Got my two free 3 skype sims this morning.
Boyfriend already has a 3 phone and I find the free skype calls between his phone and my laptop really handy so was really excited by this offer but like everyone else I am having difficulty finding a reasonable priced 3 skype phone, even second hand they are very expensive.
Anyone got any links to cheap offers?
