Conned out of £10 by Game( Chatham Branch)

I would just like to warn others of my experience at my local Game store in Chatham (Kent)
On Friday I purchased a computer game and gave the assistant a £20 note. It was only after I left the store and was on the way home that I realised that she had only given me change of £10.
I returned to the store and asked them to check the till, which they did and reassured me that the till was not over. When I looked at my receipt I noticed that the amount tendered entered was £10 and not £20. I know for a fact that I did not have any £10 notes in my purse, so rang the manager when I got home to explain what had happenend. He again said that the till was not over.
I know for a fact that I could not have mistakenly given a £10 note because I did not have any in my purse, so can only deduct that the assistant has pocketed my £10 after I left the store.
I wrote to the Customer Services dept online when I got home but only to receive the same reply that the manager said that the till was not over.
I realise that as I left the store this is very difficult to prove, but I feel that I have in effect been robbed by a large chainstore.
I will never shop at this store again and advise anyone shopping there to be extra vigilent if paying by cash!
I would like to know if it is worth reporting to Trading Standards? Thks

Trading Standards probably wont' do anything.
The till isn't over (because if she put the £10 in from her, and took the £20 herself) because it was told it had the right amount.
CCTV, perhaps?Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0 -
Thks, I asked the manager if they had cctv pointing at the tills but he said that they did have cameras but they were not near the tills and even if they did they wouldn't pick up the type of note I had paid with
:mad:I know I sound like I am trying to scam them but I am really shocked at the way I have been treated and cannot possibly trust this store again and I really couldn't be bothered with all of this for a measly £10. Seems that the game wasn't such a bargain after all!
I just hope that they had a good knees up with the profit they scammed out of me!
I warned the manager about the staff, and asked him to keep an eye out in case of any future complaints but he just kept saying the staff had worked there for a long time and were trustworthy.(lol) Wouldn't be surprised if he had a share in it!
I will stick to play.com and amazon in future!0 -

It may have been a simple mistake by the cashier, Since you checked your change after you left, Theres probably nothing that can be done.
EDIT: Dont see why your blaming the staff for not checking your change in the shop.0 -
Maybe you dropped the missing £10 note.0
-
The reason that I am blaming the staff is because obviously if the till had been over the situation would have been rectified but as I know i definitely paid with £20 I know that someone has pocketed my £10 change, and also why did they only enter amount tendered as £10 unless they meant to defraud me. Perhaps there is a mistake but still doesn't justify why the till wasn't over!
I know I should have checked my change but realistically how many people bother doing that, I take most people on a trust basis and I honestly didn't realise until after I had left the store and realised she had only given me £2.50. In between giving her the £20 I had some gamecard points to deduct so sort of lost track of what was happening.
I know that nothing can be proven but I still feel as though I have been fleeced.
I have never had any problems with this store before but perhaps with the credit crunch they are trying to up the takings a little bit!0 -
Thats why most shops have a sign up saying check your change before you leave, If you leave it up to a trust basis this is what happenes in the event of a mistake.0

First of all why mention trading standards, they deal with items being mis described but not inccorrect chnage being given, i can imagine the look on the person on the phone at trading standards if you were to call them about this, you should have checked the change when in the store, why didnt you just pay by card or when you want to use the game store just pay by card as they cant diddle you out of any money0
-
Agreed :obut we are all human beings who sometimes make mistakes especially when in a hurry. I know i didn't count my change but quite honestly wasn't expecting to get stung by such a large store, it completely caught me off guard.
I don't care about the money it is gone now and cannot be proven, but I can choose not to shop there anymore as there are plenty of competitors out there.
I will certainly take the time to check my change at the till before i leave the store in future, although I will not be shopping at Game anymore.0 -

I dont have a card (I like to pay by cash)and I wasn't expecting to be diddled so didn't preplan that I would have to pay by card to make up for their incompetence.
I was advised by another website to try trading standards as it is fraud, as it happened to someone else at another shop.0 -
Tills have overs and shorts..they can sometimes cancel each other out.It doesn't prove the staff have stolen the money, though it's possible. The only thing that would prove that was seeing the person do it.Be more careful next time.
Don't be ridiculous, you cannot prove fraud OR theft, and I daresay it could happen anyway, get over it.Do you really think the Manager and all the staff are sitting there now sharing out their ill gotten gains between them?(A whole £10).
It's probably libelous to say they conned you.0
