Not spent anything yet but will probably buy some fruit mid afternoon as I'm off to the gym tonight and won't eat until late. Should have thought about that when I was packing my lunch this morning....... Definitely need a slap on the wrist as the only food shops around here are M&S or Selfridges.

Thanks for all your replies guys, and sorry for venting it all on here! :o I'm feeling a bit better now, said cat is curled up on my lap purring away oblivious, and I've done a bit of research (good old google!) and discovered that although I'll still need to get a prescription from my vet, I can have the prescription made up anywhere, and there are a load of places online that do the same medication for almost half price :j - I just need to post them the prescription well in advance.

Its still £35 a month I hadn't budgeted for, but I stand a much better chance of squeezing that in than I do £60!

I had already asked the vet if it could be done any cheaper (nearly died when they told me how much it'd be! I'm sure she could see the colour drain out of my face!) and unfortunately, she needs at least the dose she is on now (might even have to go up if it doesn't improve within the next 3 months - she has got better since she started taking it, but not better enough iyswim) :(

I had thought of the RSPCA etc, as I know they'll help out if you're in financial difficulty, but it looks (from their website at least) like you have to go to one of their special centres - which are of course MILES away, and it'd cost more to get there and back than I'd save on the tablets!

Anyway, still feeling slightly sick (bad enough having a poorly cat, without the shock of the bill!) but a lot better than I was! I'd have found the money somehow no matter what - she's been with me through so much I can't bear the thought of losing her - but it is nice to know that I should at least be able to get it a bit cheaper!

YOu can still try a local charity, or Cats' Protection. It's worth a couple of phone calls, surely to save that £30?

    Chortle,

So sorry to hear about your cat.

Noticed your signature, you've done such a great job in getting that debt down.

I know this isnt very MSE but you could always put your DFD back a little so that you can afford to keep your cat.

I know what I'd do, I'd be gutted if anything happened to my cat.

oh I am going to - I am just so relieved that if it doesn't work out, I can still cover it (just).

I don't hold out much hope for the charities though, as AFAIK, they base it on income/benefits - and on paper, I earn decent money. Fingers crossed though - it is definitely worth a try! (and god knows they've had enough out of me in donations over the years lol)

£5 on veg???!!!! What are you buying! Gold plated carrots???

They'd be very pretty but no unfortunately not buying the gold plated carrots! Potatoes, broccoli, spinach, garlic, 2 onions, a can of coke and some dried apple rings came to about £3.70 in my greengrocer with the apple rings and coke being £1.30 of that. I also need to buy milk later on and some spring onions which I forgot so about £5 allowing for all that!

Well not sure if I saved or not today, only needed bread and cheese so went to M&S and got a small trial pack of cheddar for 99p and a small loaf also 99p so total of 1.98, sure if i went to tesco it would have been cheaper but that would have meant taking the car out and i'm sure i would have bought other stuff whilst i was there.... or thats what i'll keep telling myself anyway! :rotfl:
  • Nothing as yet but will need to pop out for butter, bread milk and biccies for the littluns. Also need dog food today so estimate about £20 in total.

Chortle, glad your cats gonna be ok. You may have helped me too as I've got a dog who needs lifelong medication that we have been buying from the vets so I'm gonna look into whether we can get that cheaper elsewhere like you - thanks!
