    Hi all!!

Ive done the lounge, the kitchen, the bathroom, the halls, littleys room and the garden!!! (which especially deserves a star, but we dont have a list for it!) :T Only the spare room and my room to go.....which was done, until I started clearing out drawers

Took little one to football this morning and got chatting to the only other mum who was there this week. Ive seen her a few times and shes really nice. She said the other mums go out on nights out from time to time and asked if id like to go along!! Woo hoo, i feel a new social circle coming on.....which is all good. :D

My garden and house are back looking terrific - well my bedroom could be better, the stuff im sorting through is in piles in there......but its definately getting there!

Little one has a new little friend over for tea from school. so all in all we've all got loads of new pals.

Im also so glad Ive stuck at the gym, and kept going. Maybe I might find my own 'Dave'! :rotfl:

Im going to hopefully get back to the gym tomorrow, and at this precise moment in time, I dont even care about Monday! Honestly, I would walk in and give him a big smile and say hi! (He'll be expecting me to be moody and not talk to him or make eye contact.....which is likely to be what I will do :rotfl:)

But in all honesty - I feel great!! I so hope I feel like this on Monday!!!! :D And for a long time after xxx

Am off to check out my list, see what I still have to do

    MWAH xx

And the best bit is we're never here! Both work two jobs, 60 hour weeks etc.

The cats must have a cannabis farm in the loft.

It's worth checking... if they have, get them to pay the bill from the profits :p. Do you want to borrow my plug-in electricity monitor so that you can work out what's causing the problem? Or is it the gas?

I've been promising to do this for ages (I have miniscule energy bills!), so here's some tips, starting with the obvious (but you might not all be aware of all of them) and working up to the things that make smaller differences.

    Heating
    • If you have storage heating... sorry, it's going to be expensive. If you have a 2-rate system (economy 7 or economy 10) meter, check that the system is set up correctly, heating up during the overnight period. Set the temperature low and it should last into the evening
    • Electric radiators/convection/fan heaters are expensive to run, so keep to a minimum
    • If you have central heating, check whether you have radiator and room thermostats, and have your boiler serviced regularly
    • Close doors to rooms that aren't used much, and switch heating off in them.
    • Work out what's a sensible heat for your house and set your thermostat accordingly. In winter you will need to wear a jumper in the house - maybe two if you're sitting doing nothing!
    • If you're lucky enough to have a system where you can programme different temperatures at different times of day and in different zones, then take the time to get it right
    • If you just have a basic control panel, then set the heating to come on early enough to warm the house up so you can get up and out in comfort. If you're working long/unpredictable hours, don't set it to come on in the evening, just switch it on manually when you get home if you need it - and remind yourself to switch it off before bed. Otherwise, keep adjusting the start time through the year as the seasons change to fit your working pattern. Set it to switch off half an hour before your usual bedtime
    • Kitchens and bathrooms should be warmest. Living rooms next, then childrens' bedrooms, then adult bedrooms.
    • Have seasonal bedding so that you are warm enough without having heating in the bedroom at night
    • Wear shoes or slippers in the house - cold feet will make you feel cold (when I'm working from home in winter I wear thermals, fleeces, sheepskin boots, hat, fingerless gloves, scarf & a down jacket :p)
    • Drink hot drinks/eat hot food in cold weather to keep your core body temperature up
    • Check for draughts and use DIY draught-proofing to reduce this (lots of stuff at the DIY stores)
    • If you don't have double glazing, use the cling-film stuff or layer blinds behind curtains (this can be as effective as secondary glazing)
    • Thick curtains with thermal linings where possible, including any external doors (or doors to unheated garages/porches/utility rooms)
    • reflective foil/panels behind radiators (and clean the radiators ) on external walls. Dark paint behind radiators on internal walls.
    • lag pipes that run against external walls/through unused rooms. Every time there is a floorboard up in this house I lag yet more pipes!
    Hot water
    • Take time to work out how long this needs to be on for, and at what temperature for you to get the hot water you need
    • Try not to use it on and off throughout the day - this cools it down. Wait and do the washing up in one go (better still... use the dishwasher ;))
    • If you do your laundry at 40 degrees and below, then it's probably not worth having the hot fill on the WM, so use cold fill only
    • You'll know which taps are furthest from the tank and take longest for the hot water to get to. Try not to use these as much, as they'll draw off enough hot water to fill the pipe which will then get cold
    • If the hot water tank is warm to the touch, and you're not getting the benefit of it in an airing cupboard, then put a secondary insulating jacket on it
    General
    • Switch of lights/radios/TVs etc when you're not in the room (not on standby, OFF!)
    • Use a laptop rather than a PC, and make sure that you optimise the power settings (so that it hibernates when not used for e.g. 5 minutes)
    • Switch off peripherals (printer, scanner etc) unless you're using them
    • Switch any electronic equipment off at the mains unless you have evidence that there is no current drawn when you think it is off... there may be a transformer in the power supply unit, or a little bit of electronic something that is drawing power.
    • If your oven/microwave/DW/WM has a clock/display, switch off at the mains when not in use
    • Energy saving lightbulbs (the spiral ones give decent light, although the dimmable ones are expensive). Try to replace halogens (unfortunately this can be an expensive exercise)
    • Check your loft insulation. If you've got less than about 10", get more - and if you can't do it all at once, work from the outside in. Bear in mind that you need to lag the pipes in the roof and the cold water tank if your loft is well insulated... it'll get cold up there!
    • If snow settles in the winter, look round outside to see where heat may be leaking from the house.
    • Sign up to imeasure and join the money saving carbon club. You need to read your meters weekly and you'll soon get an idea of what you're using and how it compares to other people
I'm sure I'll have missed a few things, but this keeps my bills to an average of £20/month... feel free to ask questions.

i really need to get up and get on with tidying the house - we've got another viewing at 4.30
we actually had an offer earlier today but again 25k below our already reduced reduced reduced asking price and all because of that stupid lowered stamp duty  - people won't offer above it
Mozzy, how much does the stamp duty work out at? (I've just worked out to these? upto £250k - max £2,500, up to £500k - max £15,000, over £500k 4% of ?) What about offering that back, like a cash back to the buyer AFTER the sale has gone through if you can afford it (should work out cheaper than dropping £25k but I know you need as much as poss for the move) as long as they pay the full asking price? That way, they have cash after they've moved in, sort of putting it on their mortgage in a way? Not sure how it will work, I know solicitors or your EA may know more about it? Anyway, just a thought.

Will try to catch up with everyone else later - need to sort out the office for DD as stuff everywhere at the moment... :rolleyes2:undecided
