I gather that a new day's tasks are posted each day, so we decide on a daily basis what to do, is that correct?

So if I list what I'm planning today and it comes up later in the week, does that mean I can cross it off for that day?

And what if I do some of the tasks for each level but not the rest? For example, I completely stripped the bed yesterday and washed everything, including the mattress cover, and I aired the pillows and duvet, but I didn't hoover or turn the mattress - do I still cross the task off?

And I'm planning to dust and vacuum the bedroom but I don't need to tidy the cupboard and I won't have time to do the windows or door frames (I want to sort out the rest of the flat!) so how does that work? I know I'm not supposed to remove tasks just cos I don't want to do them! But surely some is better than none?

And how do I remove tasks that aren't applicable to me (e.g. I don't have stairs so no hand rail) - do I just delete them?

And it looks like this is about more than cleaning, as in people list all the jobs they need to do as their 'extras', is that right?

    Thanks!

    Hi Liz

Welcome to the thread. Basically, as pigpen says at the start of the thread, the daily list that she puts up is a guide. Its not a MUST DO. Some of the things wont apply to everyone and each person has different priorities in their own home.

At the minute my kitchen is disgusting, and I cant leave it like that until 'kitchen day'! Like Dusty has said, she is swapping the main bedroom today for one of the kids bedrooms. As long as when the list comes round, those jobs have been done, and are still clean&tidy then yes, you can claim them on that day even if you did it earlier in the week. If by the time it comes round, its a little bit messy again, give it a quick once over and hey presto! Its done again. :j

In the situation where they just dont apply to you at all, i.e. no stairs so no handrail, then yes you can just delete it - EXTRAS dont count towards stars anyway and they are purely optional. Alternatively, if you have lots of jobs to do, you can add something you do want to get done to the list instead.

When the task is part of the main list that counts towards stars and not one the extras, we tend to substitue the job for something else.

For example, I dont have a floordrobe.......my clothes would think I didnt love them if I just chucked them on the floor! So instead of that, Im going to list 5 items on Ebay as its something Ive been meaning to do for a while.

Because you have already done the bed, and the mattress isnt a priority for you this week, change it to something else that does suit you. Same with the sorting of a chest of drawers. Change one of them to something like, "gather all clothes from all round the house and hang them up" or "tidy away all coats, shoes and handbags to where they should be" or HHI (half hour ironing) - or in your case HHS (half hour studying)

The list is to suit you and help YOU get YOUR life in order.

    HTH xx

PS same applies to you Mammamia - substitute something else for ironing if you cant do that job xx

Forgot to say: Yes, we use the list for more than cleaning. We do list other tasks that we need to get on with to - and generally helping each other get our lives into some sort of order! xx

Anyway, I posted on last week's thread yesterday and Toottifrootti has already kindly welcomed me and explained all the rules, so I think I know what I'm doing. I gather that a new day's tasks are posted each day, so we decide on a daily basis what to do, is that correct? Yep.

Also, I'm back at work tomorrow so plan to do a fair bit today (I was up at 7.30 ready to go, and there's already a load in the washing machine - never thought I'd hear myself say that!), but I don't know what's coming up. So if I list what I'm planning today and it comes up later in the week, does that mean I can cross it off for that day? Yep. And what if I do some of the tasks for each level but not the rest? For example, I completely stripped the bed yesterday and washed everything, including the mattress cover, and I aired the pillows and duvet, but I didn't hoover or turn the mattress - do I still cross the task off? not if you haven't hoovered it, no. And I'm planning to dust and vacuum the bedroom but I don't need to tidy the cupboard and I won't have time to do the windows or door frames (I want to sort out the rest of the flat!) so how does that work? If you haven't got time we usually try and fit them in somewhere else during the week. I know I'm not supposed to remove tasks just cos I don't want to do them! But surely some is better than none? Of course, but you wont get a star, ALL 3 levels have to be achieved. And how do I remove tasks that aren't applicable to me (e.g. I don't have stairs so no hand rail) - do I just delete them? Yep.

And it looks like this is about more than cleaning, as in people list all the jobs they need to do as their 'extras', is that right? Yep.

    Thanks!

I've jiggled your list so this is what's left for you to do

My M.A.C.A.W challenge this week is to wash up every day, even if there's only a little bit and even if I'm tired!

Hope I explained it clearly, if not someone else will be along to explain it properly :D

I'm in, but I already know there'll be no star for today because that bedroom still needs at least a full, uninterrupted day to get it sorted out. It's not that it's desperately messy or dirty or anything - it's just that it's a very big room and so has lots of stuff "stored" in it - like boxes of clothes that have been outgrown and need sorted through to see what can be handed down, given away etc. But anyway. I'll try to at least get the floor vacuumed today. And the sheets were changed before we went away for the weekend so have only been slept on one night, so they're staying put. Definitely need to dust though...

I'm in - not today, but with my own list for the rest of the week I hope.

Now off to watch CSI and then bed. It's been a long day.

Thanks embb, that does explain it! I've adapted my list now - there's a temptation to try and do everything but that 'all or nothing' approach is probably what got me in the mess (literally!) I am today, so I'm going to do a little bit at a time.
