little rant, vendors want an extra two weeks to move out....arrgh

here goes we havent exchanged yet, its been two weeks now as the vendors and us cant agree a completion date. they originally suggested 28th, and we went back and said could they do the 21st of may. they have come back and said no, but they would prefer 2nd week of june now!!!

the reason they have given the ea and solicitors is that they run a business from the house and have lots of stuff to move (didnt look too bad when we went round there).

So it now seems we wont be in middle /end of june....

just wanted a bit of a winge really, i know there is nothing that can be done as they hold all the cards and we really want the house:p

It's a simple game of poker. You can let them believe the sale is in jeopardy if you can't get i when you want.

When my vendor tried to delay moving out, unbeknowest to me, my solicitor told him that we would charge him rent.

Anyway, it seemed to focus his mind.

thanks for the replies, its basically how i thought it would be. I don kno what pressure or how much pressure. at the end of the day these vendors dont have to move and have been a pain all through the process really, just delaying solicitors etc .

but i guess i shouldnt say something i dont mean, someone at work suggested that i told them our mortgage offer runs out in june so we have to complete before the end of may, and that we have already given notice on our rental agreement. I dont knwo they havent even sid what the actual problem is.

Get your solicitor to tell them to get out by the end of May. Some people just can't be bothered to pack etc. They've got to move so they may as well get on with it.

yeah i think tuesday that i'll have to be a bit more assertive i think. ie it ether happens on the 22nd may or doesnt and they can cover a new survey and possible rental charges if they want it to extend into june.

spoke to the EA today and they have phoned the vendors. The vendors wife wants another weekend to move all her stuff out so she is adament they are not going anywhere in may!!

So annoyed with them, from the moment we were due to exchange they had a month to move all there stuff out and we originally agreed and were settling on the 28th may now its a week on.

What can i do? if my missus didnt love this house so much I'd walk away and go back in 6 months with a lower price. As I say they were like this during the agreeing of the price etc.

Just set a date, exchange contracts and go with it... UNLESS you have a pressing need to move by the end of May (i.e. you have already given rental notice or your mortgage offer DOES run out).

Dwelling on it just adds stress to the situation... :(

    Good luck with moving.

So they accepted your offer on 20.2.09 and can't be out until Jun.

We were in our house within 5 weeks of offer being accepted (including the survey). Our solicitor got on the case when our vendor started messing around.

    Seconded.

Our vendor delayed the sale at every opportunity and then demanded a month between exchange and completion. In the end we went along with it for the certainty of exchange. I promise the time will go quickly enough, and in future you will wonder what all the fuss was about.
    Been away for a while.
