According to O2 the new iphone is a myth!
I have just been in to an O2 store, my contract ends beg of June and I just wanted to check that it will just roll over on a monthly basis rather than signing up for a new contract. Reason, I want to wait for the new iphone due out this summer.
According to two members of staff in the store, there is not going to be a new iphone, just a software upgrade. We all know that O2 have reduced the cost of the current handset to free now on a £35 contract which is what they did last time the handset was upgraded. I mean do they honestly think the general public are stupid!!

The funny thing about it is, they are actually right! There is no new iPhone planned, just a major firmware upgrade to give it more capabilities to compete with the other smartphones on the market.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -

I personally do feel that there will be a new Iphone but it won't be released until the Autumn as to cash in on the Christmas market.0

Nobody knows either way, except for Apple themselves.
There is definately a new software version, 3.0, coming out in June or July. That's been announced as a definate.
There is then lots of rumour ontop that a new model will be released at the same time - see https://www.engadgetmobile.com or https://www.theiphoneblog.com for info.0 -
there's been a lot of speculation about a new model or models. The likeliest changes would be to add a forward facing camera for video calls, perhaps a higher res camera for the rear and possibly an increase in storage space.
For me, the current 3G iphone does everything I need it to (or it will when the new release of the OS comes in June/July), although it would be nice to have 32GB of storage. I don't know anyone who makes video calls and if I want to take photos, I normally have my SLR with meIt will be interesting to see what (if anything) Apple come up with to get the punters to part with their hard-earned over the existing 3G model.

It's only free on a 24 month contract. It's still £100 on an 18 month. The prices haven't dropped at all.0 -
Clearly there will be a new Iphone this year as O2 wouldn't want people to just say "well I'm happy with my Iphone I'll just go to SIM only as soon as my contract runs out". O2/other providers want to lock people in for 18-24 months so that why I expect a slightly better Iphone soon. Even if it's iconic, Apple will keep refining it year on year to keep people investing in their phone.0

i hope they do when they upgraded to the 3G phone and offer to cancel existing iphone contracts and offer existing customers the new phonehelpful tips
