Only speed in Manchester or somehwere closer to home then.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.

Because no one ever receives a NIP when they've been driving under the limit, do they?

    Hi

I have the pleasure of looking forward to attending this course tomorrow, in my disgust at having to go I managed to dump all the paperwork, does anyone know what time it starts, I think it was 9.30 but do remember there being dire warnings if I were to be late, god forbid!
thanks in advance to anyone who can confirm the time

Doesn't seem to matter floozy - at the course I attended last week, latecomers were no problem. Course started at 8.45 and some invitees arrived half an hour late but nothing was said.
  • I have just received my notice from Humberside Police regarding "Speeding" at 35mph in a 30 area. The notice gives the name of the road but as I am a stranger to Grimsby, I have no idea where it is, or where the mobile speed camera was, or if the speed limit was in fact 30mph. From the bumpf on the form, I have no way of finding out either. Even looking on Google map, I still have no idea! The form dangles the carrot regarding attending a Speed Awareness Course for "speeders" in the bracket of 35-38 in a 30mph zone at a cost of £75. I will accept this if offered and do the course to avoid the 3 points and £60 fine, even though it will involve a 2 hour trip from home. I am unsure if it do any good and change my driving habits of 42 years with an unblemished record.

Does anyone know where the course is likely to be held?

  • INAPPROPRIATE speed kills. The true statistics associated with speed and injuries might not be what ANYONE thinks.

    Hi

I have been trying to find reference to INAPPROPRIATE speed and who defines it inappropriate ? do people ever admit their speed was inappropriate?

Most people in pubs "Got done" at 31 in a 30 or 75 in a 70 and feel hard done by, not that this is the truth, but therefore is self regulation is the preferred option, then who will decide on what is inappropriate, surely the speed limit sign is the only benchmark?

Is it just up to the individual to decide what is inappropriate and drive at that speed, or is there a pub law or barrack room ruling of what is inappropriate ?

Just can't seem to find anything which clearly defines this, other than a speed limit sign, but you advocate ignoring these if appropriate ?

The town centre chav in his poxed up Clio thinks around the 50-80mph mark around the town centre at 3am is ok as he is very very experienced due to driving for nearly 7 weeks now, and the rep thinks 100 on what he describes as; a deserted motorway at 3am is appropriate. Maybe the speed limits signs give a better clue?
  • I am awaiting my NIP from the police anytime soon (or possibly an offer of going on a speed awareness course.). I wonder how experienced the tutor will be in his/her (their) driving ability.

I have quickly calculated that in my 44 years of claim/accident free driving and driving in excess of 12k miles per year equates to circa 550,000 miles without picking up a conviction of any description. Wonder how that record will stack up aginst the tutors own person record ?- may be that I will be in a better position to educate the tutors !! - just a thought.

Tempted to go on the course though as I understand they offer coffee and snacks.

The course is normally run by someone who is a civilian driving instructor, not a serving police officer, not a collision investigator and no involvement or experience of attending and dealing with crashes, injured or fatals and no war stories to pass on, just what they have been told to preach.

  • I ve heard if you take the speed awareness course to avoid 3 point, that if you get caught again in 3 years you will get 6 points as the 3 are added from the 1st time

Even better, dont speed and risk getting caught in the first place!

If only that were true! Don't worry about thinking though, just take the authorities word for it.

you aware that a 30mph speed limit is signified by the fact street lights are on the side of the road, if in doubt of what the speed is then drive at 30

Obviously I am, but nowadays there are so many 30mph, 40mph and even 50mph roads with street lights at the side. Its difficult to decide which one is the limit, especially with someone up ones ar5e as they are in a hurry!
