If you stick to the speed limit you cant be caught speeding, simple.

I'm glad we have such an experienced driver involved to educate us (have you been on a motorway yet??)

There a lot more to it than the simplistic view.

I am awaiting my NIP from the police anytime soon (or possibly an offer of going on a speed awareness course.). I wonder how experienced the tutor will be in his/her (their) driving ability.

I have quickly calculated that in my 44 years of claim/accident free driving and driving in excess of 12k miles per year equates to circa 550,000 miles without picking up a conviction of any description. Wonder how that record will stack up aginst the tutors own person record ?- may be that I will be in a better position to educate the tutors !! - just a thought.

Tempted to go on the course though as I understand they offer coffee and snacks.

Mine was in the Thames Valley.

There were no lectures from anyone, in fact, they were quick to dispel any suggestions that they are a better/ more law abiding driver than the reckless nutcases sitting in front of them.

The course was not bad at all. :)

Don't bank on getting an offer of a place on a speed awareness course. I was caught doing 35 in a 30 mile limit. My speed had drifted up whilst I was driving through a village in North West Wales. I live in the west midlands/south west of England. I opted for the course only to be told that it will be held in North West Wales. It will take me at least 4 hours to get there (shows as 2 1/2 hours on AA route) and 4 hours to return plus the time on the course. £50 worth of fuel, £60 for the course and a day off work (unpaid). I requested that I attend a course closer to where I live. One is held in Warwickshire and one in Bristol which is 20 miles from where I live. I receive this reply "there is no legislation stating that these courses must be offered and at this stage there are no national agreements in place for speed awareness courses. Each police force and partnership is autonomous and whilst a few do offer courses the logistics are not in place to transfer drivers or to monitor results." So, if I'd broken the law nearer to home I'd have been able to avoid 3 points on my licence. Postcode lottery or what?

It's not quite a postcode lottery, you are being charged in the region you committed the offence.
If you were required to go to Court for the charge, it too, would have been local to where the offence was committed.

It is possible to 'attend' court via a 3rd party or by submitting a written defence. I can't atttend the course by proxy. Had I been caught speeding in Manchester I would have been offered at least 3 different cities in which to take the course, one of which would have been closer to where I live. In other areas I wouldn't have been offered a course at all so would have had no option than to collect 3 points and pay the fine. There is no universal parity in the law for first speeding offences.
  • Only speed in Manchester or somehwere closer to home then.

If you can't do the time, don't do the crime.
Beware of imitations e.g. Robert Sterling
  • Went on the course yesterday - complete and utter waste of time - coffee and biccies nice though
  • Hi

I have the pleasure of looking forward to attending this course tomorrow, in my disgust at having to go I managed to dump all the paperwork, does anyone know what time it starts, I think it was 9.30 but do remember there being dire warnings if I were to be late, god forbid!
thanks in advance to anyone who can confirm the time
