@ claire, I am due to go to Mexico Riviera Maya in the Hotel Catalonia on 2nd of June with Thomsons and they want money off us if we want to change atm.
I noticed that Thomsons have just updated the webpage to say that people flying up until 18th of May can either change the holiday or get a refund.
So I'm like you I am just waiting and seeing whats going to happen, if everything is ok then I would go as I was there last September and really enjoyed it.
If not and I have to change then I guess either Jamaica or Egypt for us.0 -
we still want to go and are due to travel with Thomsons on 25th May! for our honeymoon and they are still giving us the run ariound.. what with work, a heavy cold and last minute wedding preparations I don't need this.
(NB.. I'm feeling totally sorry for myself this morning and this maybe influencing my posting!)0 -
Not sure if this will help anyone, but I got back from Mexico 7 days ago from my honeymoon. I had a great time, and if wasnt for the media you wouldnt have a clue anything is different out there, just less people as some airlines are not flying people out.
Obviously the Swine Flu isnt good, and your right to be cautious, but I wouldnt be overly concerned. It didnt impact our holiday, and we had a great time in the Riviera Maya.0 -
Well I see Thomsons have cancelled up to 22nd of May now.
I hope something gets clarified soon as the other holidays I was going to transfer to have gone now
I have already got my spending money here, so dont really want to go anywhere else.
I am keep checking tripadvisor website and people are saying that they have not noticed anything wrong at the hotel.

we just returned from mexico and were informed by more than one thomson rep that there will be no flights to the country until after june 14th. they were closing our hotel as we were there and the areas of cancun and playa del carmen were certainly bracing themselves for a deathly quiet month.
I should add, we landed on monday morning and we had a brilliant time, no scare mongering out there and knowone in masks, it was a brilliant holiday which I recommend to anyone
hope this helps
xh If you aim for the moon if you miss at least you will land among the stars!0 -
Well Thomsons website updated this lunch time but still no farther with my holiday on 2nd june

Customers due to travel to Cancun or Cozumel up to and including 22nd May 2009 inclusive will have the option to cancel their holiday and receive a full refund without incurring any cancellation charge, though please note that insurance policies and any extras such as car parking are not refundable. Alternatively, customers will also have the option to amend their holiday free of charge and select a different destination or alternative date up to the same value already booked (availability permitting).
In addition, those travelling up to and including 27th May 2009 may also amend their holiday free of charge and select a different destination or alternative date up to the same value already booked.

FCO have lifted the ban so lets hope all flights start again soon. Can only be good news for all of us still waiting to go .:j0

I should have been flying out on Monday - going to the Domincan instead at the end of the month - not what i'd planned.0

They have just covered this on the BBC News and they expect it to be the end of the month before trips get back to normal as the hotels in Mexico have been closed for several weeks and not need to 'reopen' ready to accept guests.FCO have lifted the ban so lets hope all flights start again soon. We are meant to be going to the Catalonia Riveria Maya on 3rd June. Its been awful not knowing what will happen or being able to amend our destination free of charge. Thomas Cook would only give info for flights up to 22nd May which is not as helpful as Cosmos etc who were allowing free amends up to 9th June. We rang the travel agent after the FOC changed its advice and now have to waot till tomorrow while thye 'review their policies' so still in limbo...................0
