i would like to know if anybody who has a holiday booked to mexico in the next few weeks is having any problems with their travel agents in regard to changing their holiday . Our travel agent has told us we can change ours but when we went in yesterday we found they had increased the prices .

Am with Thomas Cook - the cancelled our flight and have been nothing but helpfull.
Offered us either a change of holiday or full refund. (may have had some fee's to pay - but didn't investigate this option fully as we wanted our holiday)
Have to say as we booked our holiday in Jan. I don't know if prices were fair or not but I do know that the ady went to ask her manager to get us a bit extra off - and came out with £100 discount.
Either way we were happy with the deal we got - on a totaly different holiday.
Good luck...0 -
My childminder was due to fly out to Mexico on Monday for 2 weeks with Thomas Cook-she got a full refund 3 days ago and booked with them for Sharm El Sheik flying out on Monday and saving herself money too!
Good luck!Wedding on hold until 2011. Mummy to DD1 3/2/6 DD2 5/10/7! Mortgaged to my eyeballs!0 -

It won't be the agent who has increased the prices - the tour operators will have increased prices due to increased demand. Often you'll find as a holiday gets more booked, then the price goes up.I am a Travel Agent My company’s ATOL/ABTA numbers are S0466/3973. we booked with thomas cook , have seen alternative holiday on their website for a couple of hundred extra , which we are quite happy to pay but when we went in the shop they want to charge us another £1800.oo . this doesnt seem very fair but they wont budge .0

would love to do that but until the FO actually say theres no travel to mexico on the dates we are travelling in june we cant cancel the holiday without losing all our money , so guess we will just have to wait and see what happens .0

This does seem to be very unfair.
The travel companies and their insurers are going to have to realise that, whilst they may be offering what they consider to be suitable alternatives', their customers usually have a very tight window when they can actually have leave from work. That would be my tack if I were in your situation. Emphasis that you have leave booked which cannot be changed (say it's owing to the holidays booked by your colleagues), say that you have seen what you consider to be a suitable alternative and you are prepared to pay the balance. Then throw the ball firmly back in their court and say that if they are not prepared to offer a mutually suitable alternative holiday then you want a full and final refund so that you can take your business elsewhere.
I am interested to see how this progresses...0 -
will let you know what happens but have already tried all that with them and they are just not interested . they were supposed to be in touch on friday but as yet we,ve heard nothing . will have to wait and see what happens but at the moment i think we would rather risk swine flu than pay all the money that they want .0

That's understandable Claire.
This really is an unusual situation and one where those of us the travel industry honestly don't know what will happen next. Personally, I haven't had to deal with people travelling to Mexico this week but we have had issues with clients needing to travel to other parts of Central America who would normally change flights in Mexico and have had to reroute them.
I think it was wednesday when we were getting travel alerts every couple of hours listing more airlines who had cancelled all flights to Mexico, so we're not routing anyone through the country for the foreseeable future. It's more hassle than it's worth and it's a crying shame for all the people who have spent all year saving for their dream holidays. I do hope this is resolved for you soon.0
