I read some of the posts a few pages back and don't relate to some of them. Even though I know most definitely that I drink too much. I never drink to get drunk. I'm the girl at the end of the night that is drinking water  And yet I find it hard to go a day without a glass of wine. Habitual? Problem? I always go down the road of problem because my dad died an alcoholic and I always assume that it's genetic. Or maybe I'm just following a pattern because alcohol was prevelent in my childhood.

I don't think anyone, even an expert, could give me a definitive answer.

    X

You don't have to label yourself
People know themselves if they are drinking too much because they feel guilty. Labels are just semantics, but I know some people get very defensive if they think they could be 'alcoholic'.
I am not saying you are for one moment.
If you drink everyday, and have to drink everyday, then you have an issue with alcohol. I am sure no-one knows what it is (even you) but it is an issue. I find most people have issues with life, and they use alcohol to escape.
Probably a bit of both in the nature/nurture debate. Though, it doesn't matter. If you want to cut down or stop, then it is a issue that you need to take action about, regardless of WHY you are drinking everyday

I don't drink to get drunk either and I can never understand how people can plan to go out for the night with the sole intention of getting blind drunk  It doesn't appeal to me at all...I drink either to relax and switch off in the evenings or to be sociable, so for me personally my issue is to relax differently and not drink every night but to continue to have a drink socially if I want to.

Had a bottle of wine last night whilst watching Dark Knight (Heath Ledger was fab, what a waste) and don't feel too bad today consider the girls got me up at 6am )

Budgie Hope you have a lovely holiday, sounds like you really need it at the moment hun take care xxxxxxx

so my total is still 12 40sm and as the inlaws are round tonight to cook us dinner, I doubt tonight will be af, but hopefully back on that wagon tomorrow...

Looks like another miserable day here today...hope you all have a nice Sunday xx

    Morning all :hello:

Not AF last night but had about 25% of my normal consumption of 12 cans. Nice maths question to start the day :D Brought 8 cans yesterday for some reason  but aim to not drink them in one go. Have 5 left so that would give the answer to the first maths question :D.

Waffling there but Like to wish all Fathers a Happy Fathers day today and hope you all have a relaxing , easy day ahead ;). I have a bedroom to paint, Childrens party to deliver DD2 at and cook a roast dinner. Just a normal day for me

For those that remember my OH went to a boot fair yesterday and came back with a 3 DVD set of Worzel Gummidge. God how that took me back and i forgot how horrible Aunt Sally was. Might have a "Cup of tea and a slice of cake" later. For those who dont remember I apologise and ask you to ask your parents if they remember it :D

Hope you all have a lovely, Lazy Sunday

  • Orchid~just like me. I drink to relax after a hard day at work or a day with the kids driving me mad. But I proved to myself on Friday that is possible to get to bed time without it.

I had a glass last night. Although as I was pouring it I was thinking it didn't feel like a Saturday night and could easy do without. Had it anyway ;)

Graeme~I'm not going to go into the "WHY?" As you rightly say, it isn't the most important issue, although I would love to know. I would equally like to know why on earth my dad didn't stop his drinking before he died aged 44  He was a good looking, successful man until the drinking took over his life. He tried AA but never stuck with it. By definition, I'm not like him because I would NEVER EVER choose drinking over my family. But that could be the sex difference, because I've seen men walk away from their families. I know there are woman who do it, but I don't personally know of any and would think that it is quite rare. Waffling now :D

I'm off to a bbq today but have to drive, so no temptation.

    Need to start again :o

    Good morning all

    Hope everyone is ok.

I've decided to have a break from the thread for a while. Think I need to take some time to concentrate on my family, rather than obsessing (as thats how I've got lately) about alcohol. Last night was a turning point for me. OH refused to come to bed as he knew I'd be snoring so loud (always do when I've had a drink) and he slept in Piglets room instead. He never outright condemns my drinking but this is the closest he's ever got. He's barely speaking to me today and I feel awful.

So I'm going to leave the computer off this week. Concentrate on my family and find things to do other than drink, think about drink, or type about drink.

    Speak to you all soon

    Miss P
    xx

Edit - god I sounded serious. This thread is wonderful and I WILL be back. Just need a break.

I know how you feel Piggy. I tend to drift in and out of this thread as sometimes all I am doing is Thinking about drink or reading about it. Each to their own and will see you again soon.

Now ,Funny as it seems, I was thinking about you when I woke up this morning as I was watching Olivia on Channel 5 and wanted to ask if that is her in your Avatar ?

    Good luck

  • Morning everybody!

Back on the wagon again today, had the prescribed pinot g last night.

Have a lovely holiday, Budgie! You certainly deserve it. I hope you and DH have a lovely, relaxing time - lots of pure fresh air. Yup, exams all over, but onto uni open days now!!! Poor kids, it's a blooming treadmill for them, with one thing after another. Lower sixth form for us was a chill-out year - nowadays it's slog, slog. Driving test this week for DD1 - don't know if I want her to pass, because then I'll have yet another thing to worry and obsess about.

Don't stay away too long, Miss Piggy!

Have a good day everybody. Have everything for the father's day hamper except for present from DD1 - so when she gets around to buying that, we can give Mr PIR his present! And it's got ribbon in Leeds United colours, so he should be pleased!!!

    Bi for now xxx

    Okay, caught up

Happy fathers day to all that apply, hope your kids are spoiling you today :)

BHB, I used to be in a similar position a few years ago with the stella's, I used to buy 6 for £5 and limit myself to 3 a night, but sometimes I had an extra one just cos 'it was there' and then the next day felt I didn't have enough to last me so I'd buy another 6 (couldn't buy just the 1 cos that wouldn't have been MSE of me as it works out dearer :D), then all limits where thrown out of the window till I got a day with no beer in the fridge and could start again. Be careful you don't fall into this trap, if you are happy drinking the 3 then only 1 the following night then that's fine, I personally wouldn't have been able to stick to 1 then have nothing left. Saying all this, that was a good few years ago, nowadays I'd buy 6 and drink the lot (far easier on the limiting calculations though ) xx

40SM, did you manage to stay on the wagon last night? xx

eselt, hope you managed to get to the park yesterday, weather is looking to improve this week I think.

PIR, I definately think your tennis is improving because of your AF'ness. I feel like I have more get up and go this week, infact positively bouncy :D bit odd really :rotfl:

Fay, how's it going? Any easier yet?

Orchid, I love trampolining, you are so lucky! I used to be in a trampolining team in my teens and decided to take it up again about 10 years ago and it nearly killed me :rotfl: it's not as easy as it looks, especially after a decade or so of drinking, smoking and no excerise  Bet you're aching today? I really enjoyed the Dark Knight, I agree very sad about Heath Ledger though :( Good luck with the outlaws :D

YM, I used to love Worzel!! Wow that takes me back! Hope you have a lovely day and please quit with the maths equations, it's Sunday, a day of rest :D

Budgie, on holiday? Where you going? How long for? What are we going to do without you looking after us?

Miss P, don't be a stranger for too long will you. I understand how you feel and it's sad that you won't be around for a while but please pop in a say hello soon. xx

MP, it's lovely to look back at the memories, even though it's sad to see people that have passed. But you can remember the good times too which is the important thing. You've just prompted me to get my wedding vid out and show the kids, DD1 was 18months then, DS didn't come along for another 10 years and DD2 for another 12!

FH, congrats on the AF day, hope you feel better for it? Ride the waves with the sleeping/dreams thing, it does pass in a week or so :) xx

Ann, glad you hear you are feeling better xx

Netttie, hope you enjoyed your evening xx
