:hello: to London Guy, I'm from London too.;) I have felt exhausted when stopping drinking and I think it is to do with missing the sugar and also your body's way of catching up with all the sleep you have missed if you drink heavily. I think when you drink heavily you pass out but you don't get the restful sleep you need especially if like me you wake up about 4 or 5 and can't drift off again.

Talking of sleep I'm going to have another early night tonight and read my book in bed.

    Hope everyone is okay.:A

I went away for a week at the beginning of April & it meant eating out every night, but I 'allowed' myself to drink if I wanted to & I think I will carry on doing that. I now know I can cut out Mon-Thurs and just drink at weekends but I never ever thought I could achieve that, It has become a habit now so I am going to allow myself to drink on holidays - after all I am a cutter downer & I think holidays are different - so long as I remain in control when i am at home then I will be happy with that :D And thank gawd for kudzu too :D:rolleyes:

I want to be a cutter-downer, rather than a quitter but i don't trust myself yet. Maybe that will come in time.
  • I was very tired for about three months after I stopped drinking - think it's right what was said before about not having restful sleep under the influence of alcohol... so the body needs to catch up.

One other thing that really helps is to take vitamin B supplements as alcohol drains that out of your system so our bodies need a boost. I didn't take any other substance... just ate really well, slept lots and did what I had to do to stay sober. 2.5years later my life is entirely beyond what I could have ever dreamed of. :D

Yes it's called urge surfing, when the urge to drink kicks in after a trigger kicks a craving up and about you can ride the urge and wait for the wave to break onto the beach and disperse and the urge, craving and desire all subside. An activity to distract is a good idea too and then you don't have to focus on the wave to break and you can realise later that the feelings have gone.

Where are my manners by the way? Welcome London_guy :hello:Hop on the AF bus we're ready to pick you up and have budged up to make room on the seats. Hang on!

Anyway not drinking tonight so makes number 14 today and tonight.

Onwards and upwards everyone hope you are all ok.

Fay - hope the meeting went well
Jo - hope you are ok too
BB - will check back later to see how the wonderful angel is

I've never heard of urge surfing before but it sums it up brilliantly. Experiencing a strong urge right now, so will have to go and tidy the kitchen and hang the washing on the stand.

Will also stick the kettle on for a coffee and if that still doesn't work then I'll brush my teeth because red wine (well anything really!) tastes disgusting mixed with toothpaste.

    Oh, the things we do..!

Good thinking glasgowgirl, go with the brushed teeth approach and also an activity eg anything that distracts your mind eg reading, walking, inside or outside. Tidying and cleaning works a treat for me passing the time and changing my thoughts, esp if put some music on or tv in the background.

Good luck my dear, thinking of you hanging in there :D

I used to be like you too. Live on my own and drinking got worse on my own rather than in company. Not like this now after this thread helped me change so much :D
