Hi everyone,
Well done on your first AFD Mackeroo!I hadn't had an AF day in years before starting this challenge.
Like Maman, I hadn't either. And my last week AF was so rare I can pinpoint it exactly, although I haven't plucked up the courage to ask my friends exactly when they got married as it was the same week. But their kid is about 8 or 9 now, so a while ago.:D
In fact I really ought to build up to going for a week without as that would be a big milestone for me. But I will focus on today and this month for now as that's good enough for where I am today.
So it's 5/12 for me please BB
Incidentally I was thinking about units drunk last week. I've gone from a bottle of wine a day level, so probably over 60 a week. Last week I drank on 3 days and had 5 units one day, 8 the next and 10 on Sunday. That's my most moderate week for ages. And I was really pleased until I added them up to 23 which is still more than the max recommended for a woman. I am still pleased, as for me that is a big step forward. So it would seem I've still got a long long way to go.
By the way since I've found more honesty on this thread than I ever expected I want to confess that I didn't get to the gym. The dog ate my homework all day miss. But I will be going now.
Have a good day everyone.0 -

Morning everyone. I am day off today which is usually a tricky time for me.I have had wine for breakfast before now. Day 19 though AF for me now and i intend to make to the end of the day.
Mackaroo welcome, hope this day works out for you too.. We can but try.
See you all later. I am off to do some gardening, even in the rain x0 -
Morning all
A very early night for me last night - went up at 9.30 and made the most of OH being away - clean sheets and the whole bed to myself woo hoo!!
Had quite a productive evening, went for a jog (as my trainer cancelled), did some revision, watched some TV, stuck to my WW and had an AF day - didn't actually even feel like drinking.
So that makes 5/15 AFD for me so far. Will be another AFD today as I'm at college til 10 and won't go to the shop and straight to bed when I get in.
Have been getting a bit concerned about this coming weekend, I have a friend coming to visit on Thursday and she's already talking about buying wine, bought some cans of pimms and lemonade as we're going to Chelsea Flower Show on Friday and then we're back up to town Saturday to see other friends and the group revolves around beer although most don't get drunk.
I have found a wine which is a low alchol wine which is only 1/2 WW point(for those dieting) per glass and actually tastes nice- it is Lindemanns Early Harvest Sauvignon Blanc and you can get it in Morrisons and Asda. So I think I am going to get some of that for Thursday evening, drive my car to the station so I abstain on Friday (don't like Pimms anyway) and then take Saturday as it comes.
Before posting on here I would have just gone ahead and drunk regardless so thank you to everyone here.
Welcome to all the newcomers and hi to all the lurkers (of which I was one), it's hard at first but all the cliches are true - take one day at a time and it gets easier.
Have a good day everyone

Good morning all.
Thank you Fay, Eselt, and Mackeroo for sharing your stories.
There were two low points for me that made me realise I had to start cutting back on my drinking. I attended a course for work with one other colleague who I knew to be a light drinker. If I'd have been on my own I'd have gone down to the bar but instead I took cans of gin and tonic to drink in my room so that my colleague wouldn't realise how much I drinkThe second was when I found myself limiting the number of empties in my recycling bin and taking a big bag to the recycling centre instead.
Plus the hangovers are no longer gentle and I hate feeling useless all day.
I drove home last night wrestling with the urge to buy a bottle of gin to go with the tonic water sitting in my fridge. I had a sort of LBM when one of my con arguments involved money. Just how much have I spent on alcohol over the yearsSo I sat down and worked it out when I got home.
Now I'm not what many of you would class as a heavy drinker as on any one night the most I'll ever consume is a couple of gin and tonics (house measures though) and half a bottle of wine. Most nights will only be 2 or 3 gin and tonics. But it all adds up and I worked out I was spending £4-8 a day on booze and nibbles that go oh so well with a drink  Taking an average of £6 a day, which to be honest is generous as when I go out I spend way more, that makes £2190 a year :eek::eek:
From now on everyday that I manage as AF I will put that £6 in a savings account to be spent on the things that I have denied myself by saying I can't afford them.
And that's £12 so far in the pot:D
Hope you all have a lovely day0 -
Morning all :j
Another AF day for me so I'm now at 13. But niggling headache today because I tried taking 2 x 50mg 5-HPTs last night - probz try just 1 tonight. Played tennis, now working.
Great to hear the snippets about who eats the willow, Fay, I'd never thought about it before and I will impress my family with my new knowledge :rotfl:Total AFD's May-December 2009: 178 ie 73% of total days (245 days)

Well done abstainers :T
I got given a bottle of whiskey yesterday . Not sure what to do with it ?? I don't know anybody who drinks whisky so can't really give it away. May well have to be used to light the bbq :rotfl:. Hmmm ...... tries to think of a recipe that will boil off the alcohol....
Mrs BHB had a bottle of wine last night - smelled like a right 'alky' coming to bed. God, I used to smell like that ..... every night. Scary!!!! ...... Sorry dear ......STEP AWAY FROM THE ROLLING PIN !
Today will be day 44 and even more determined. Though DD2's sleepover friend nearly drove me to it last night. Should have been here for one night, mum turns up with clothes for three days ...... have only known the woman and child for a month:eek:. Me thinks she may be taking the p!ss!
Anyway £176 not spent so far..... and money in the bank to pay bills ...... what more can I say!
Thanks Guys

BHB
Wow, it really adds up doesn't it. Presumably the fact we're on this thread on this forum means we all want to save/have more money alongside everything else.
Good work BHBAFD May 8/150 -
