:hello: before i know it, im planning my return journey home to buy wine and as soom as i get in i cant wait to crack the bottle open. I start off most weeks by deciding that this will be the week that i dont drink on a school nite, but invariably i dont make it past the first nite.

Hi there - this is my pattern too - always tomorrow I will be better, next week I will stop, next month etc.

It got to the point where I was buying a bottle of wine, (and a can of G & T) so I could have the G&T in the car once I got to the bottom of my single track private road - I would often stop in the layby and have that before I headed along the next mile or so into the house timed it perfectly to not be driving on a public road and not to be affected by it until I was literally getting out of the car - to let it kick in and make me a bit more mellow before I walked in the door, sometimes I'd just open it outside in the car and drink it before I went in) once in the door I had the bottle open generally before anyone had said hello or it would go in the fridge for later on when I was 'allowed it' depending on what needed doing. I would limit my supply this way too as I lived out of town.

Exactly this time last year. Scary. When I decided we were moving in town and NO restrictions on access to shops etc, I decided I really needed to sort myself out a bit - as I am not very good at restricting myself and therefore having 'not being able to drive' wasnt going to be a barrier any more.

Welcome aboard - wagon tends to stop as and when you need it (bit like the Nightbus in Harry Potter)

Thank you fayjmck for your welcome and sharing a bit of your story with me, i got a bit emotional reading that i have to say as it does resonate with me. I think a lightbulb moment for me was when i was up north visiting my parents (who dont drink) i would always take a bottle of wine. I felt of late they were watching from a distance how much i was drinking, so to pretend that i wasnt drinking as much as they thought i packed the wee bottles of wine into my bag and drank them secretly in the bedroom along with half of the bottle of wine, so my parents would think i only drank half of the bottle. I have no reason to be like this in front of my parents, im 39, but it kinda made me sit up and take note.
I think the support that you and all the other lovely people on here give to each other is truly amazing and to feel part of that family would be great, i know its a journey and im only tetering at the very beginning, but hey you gotta start somewhere and today is my day!

.i find it hard to know what to tackle first, my drinking or weight.....well done to you on losing all that weight, i need to lose at least 3 stones, i have been to WW so many times and it aint working at the mo, so i cancelled my membershipyesterday and will try going solo! Im planning at least 3 AF days a week and walk 20 mins for 4 days a week and eat sensibly..i know what to do its the putting it into practice that is difficult. My theory is, if i dont have a drink in the eve then i wont be so tempted to raid the kitchen cupboards!!

Hi Mackeroo and Glitzkiss - welcome to both of you from me too

Mackeroo, your post above could have been written by me instead, apart from that I didn't cancel my WW membership yet! Good luck with the weight loss, I've decided to go slow and steady on that apart from the AFDs, and like your idea of walking 20 mins 4 days a week.

I think it's the food that I eat when drunk that is a bigger problem than the alchohol calories themselves.
Haven't got to the gym yet so going now. And I intent to make today another AFD.
    Cheers all!

    Hi Mackeroo

Welcome to our merry little gang ( perhaps merry not the right word:eek:).
You have taken the first step towards change . Even if it means you only drink 6 nights a week instead of 7 - its all progress. I am doing the scoring next month so I will try my best to encourage and look after you.
