I used ESP on a black ash sideboard [very fashionable in the 80s]. I then painted in a grain effect. It looked quite good and extended the life of the sideboard for a few more years.:hello: N:hello:A :hello:N :hello:A :hello:M :hello:A :hello:G :hello:S :hello:0

Got it (finally!)
What are your plans for it? My Mum's got two similar chests, over the years she's painted them some truely awful colours (including deep burgundy with gold stencils - yuck) but the best IMO is the current cream version.I have the simplest tastes. I am always satisfied with the best.

I was thinking to paint it white or cream or maybe pale grey gloss. It might go in an alcove in my living room to replace a pine trunk we've had there since we moved in 12 years ago. If it doesnt look right maybe the dining room or our bedroom but I would have to sell a merchants chest we have in there. In other words I dont really have the right place for it and just hoping it looks ok!
Definitely not burgundy with gold stencils lol
edit... I was inspired by this photo http://www.flickr.com/photos/dottieangel/4307175656/ although that one looks bigger.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0
