    Hi all

I've been on holiday in North Wales this week and went to Barmouth one day - there is a lovely shop there called "Summer Strawberries" (or something similar - loads of gorgeous shabby chic items from cushions to kitchen tins etc - if anybody is nearby I would recommend a visit.

Also, one of the Portmeirion shops in Porthmadog - gorgeous gingerbread man / cupcake tins for tea, sugar and coffee (£4.99 each) with matching cake tins.

There was also a little shop in Harlech which sold lots of second-hand items such as tin baths, baskets, small shelves and cupboards ripe for renovation...

Unfortunately, I couldn't but anything as no room in the car coming back home.

Ooooh if you all could know how long I have spent reading through this and the old shabby chic thread. Well I'm hooked!

Having lost our home last year we have had to rent. We're lucky to have found a smasher of a place but it's old (new build queen here, minimal and smoothe walls etc) I'm very quickly loving this place and it's quirks but have some learning to do. It has to feel like a home and be 'done up' according to it's features and character but with costing next to nothing.

I tell you I have not slept with excitement! There's an old cabinet in the garage that my landlord didn't want to take, I've just had my text reply to say I can renovate it!

I've been tesco valuing painting our bedroom, it's all white in there now and have this wallpaper on head board wall

The cabinet will be a large bedside cabinet.

My heart really wants to have sanded wooden top and wooden knobs, painted cream eggshell but my head is saying all white to match white bed linen and walls.

I just don't know what to do for the best.

Anyway, any comments, help or ideas would be very greatfully receieved... and thank you in advanace. I'm just so happy to be inspired rather than depressed because I have to 'make do'

How about painting it all white and distressing it, or painting it white and leave the top as wood if it is real wood?

I started out shabby chicing out of necessity like you but now I prefer to do things this way, I have a lovely home that has cost very little! I need new dining chairs as the ones I have are cheap 80's ones and each one is broken. DH has tried to fix but they have broken again so I'm after new ones. I just missed out on 4 solid wood chairs last night, the highest bid was £25 for all four!
