I thought it was reall wood but it's not so the choice is easy.. all white :)

I've started the sanding but more to do (how do I remove all the dust as a damp cloth isn't working too good) and wooden knobs from ebay bought at 2 for 99p
Also I'm bidding on a wooden chair.. oh I do hope I win!

ETA this! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?VISuperSize&item=200458890123 I won it for 99p, local collection 2 miles away. I'm thrilled!
  • Hiya Everyone!!!

I was browsing on ebay today and found some beautiful chests but I'm not really sure I can justify buying them as I'm not really sure what I'd use them for....I love this one though!
    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Wooden-Storage-Trunk-Treasure-Box-Antique-Sailing-Map_W0QQitemZ130375889633QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Bedroom_Furniture?hash=item1e5b0232e1#ht_2412wt_1063
Any ideas on what I could store in it to justify the purchase?

I've just found out that Cath Kidston will be having a 15% off day tomorrow - discount will be applied automatically in store or you can use SPRM at the checkout if your buying online. Not sure if we can post codes here but if we can't then let me know and I shall delete it.
    Hope this helps someone

hiya all , I am new to this thread but wondered if any of you could help me .

I have a wooden dining table and chairs that is lookign more shabby than chic . I want to paint it but in needs to be scrubable ( 6 year old in the house!)

what would be the best paint to use or am i better off just sanding it back and revarnishing it ?

In order to paint it you'd probably need to sand it back as well to give a good key for the paint to adhere to. Once sanded if I needed one to be able withstand a good, hard scrubbing I'd use gloss paint and several coats of it at that.

Agree with bitter and twisted bar the Gloss bit, depends if you like the look of gloss ( I dont) in that case a couple of coats of normal emulsion and then briwax over the top, gives a nice finish or failing that eggshell has a lower sheen.:D

I havent posted on here for a while but am delighted to do so now as bedroom make over is nearly finished. Picked up a Laura Ashley mirror 50% off in the Sale. and its just the thing, reflects light in my small cottage bedroom and just brings it all together somehow. Its a mish-mash of victorian stripped pine, mahogany and a patchwork. On the sets of draws I have embroidered linen table cloths. I even treated myself to some Laura A glass coasters. They look very smart.

I'm desperate for one of these to go in my bedroom when it's finished http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180491651850&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT but DH won't let me bid on this :( I think it would solve all of our storage issues and I would then have space for a dressing table full of shiny things!

ETA: if it doesn't link well it is item number 180491651850
DH's friend saw it earlier and he said I'd need to live in a victorian house for a piece of furniture like this. Errrrm, what, like this one that was built in 1905? Lol!

I hope you don't mind me joining in. That's a lovely piece of furniture but can I just add a word of caution to anyone thinking of buying a big wardrobe? I know it sounds obvious but I sold furniture for years and we used to often get triple wardrobes returned because people had checked that they had room for it in the bedroom but not how they would manouvre it up the stairs! I see that you are in a Victorian house Kaz so you probably have plenty of room, with high ceilings, but it's surprising how many people hadn't considered smaller upvc front doorframes etc
Older wardrobes aren't as deep either, most times a modern coat hanger won't hang 'straight' Sorry, don't mean to put anyone one off just don't want you to be disappointed if you can't get it into your beautifully created bedroom! HTH:o
