It needs another coat of varnish or two, but my little bird house is looking a little prettier now! The 'before' pic is on my blog :)

Ooooo lovely. Very girly. What are you going to do with it? Will you let the birdies use it?

    Hello again!

I can get back on MSE, after an awful lot of fruitless investigation I gave up trying to fix the problem and all of a sudden, today it is fine. I'm puzzled but delighted to be back!

I've just had a lovely catch up and ,made notes so I didn't forget anything lol!

Cherisong - That ottoman was such a bargain. I'd not want to paint the legs pink too but I'm not overly fond of pink so just a personal preference. I'd say go with what you think and like others said, it's easily changed if you don't like it. Love the bookcase, has great potential, I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide upon.

Eager Learner - your kitchen is coming along nicely, the paper at the back is very dediated!

Hart - I am glad to see that you've done loads of your kitchen now, I have to admit I still haven't done inside the doors yet - it's very much out of sight, out of mind.

Keiss - The 50's unit looks really fresh and although I too winced at the price tag, the island is lovely and certainly cheaper than a new one, I'd love a marble top for pastry and baking.

Shelly, Hope to see that dresser makeover soon, Craftydebs is gorgeous and very prettily accessorised! I love how inspirational it is to see what other people have done before taking the plunge.

Crickett - I bought the Tesco floral napkins (actually a few of us did) and decorated various things with them and PVA, I'd put varnish on top to protect it a bot more though.

Bibbity - the birdgouse is so sweet, I have a plain white on in the garden that could do with a spruce up but not this year, I have enough to do insoors at the moment.

Irish girl - I like those handles as they are, but if you do chose something else you should definitely put them on ebay as they are fetching good prices.

Ahh, think thats everything. I've not actually been doing much SC ing. I will pop a few pics on later but without the kick up the bum that this thread gives me it's fizzled out a bit!

Irishgirl, I like the handles on your chest of drawers. I am sure they will suit the new look that
    you give it.

Well I managed to put 1 more coat of primer on the bottom of the dresser and varnished the top, panicked when it went on a milky grey colour but read the tin and it said that's normal...phew!!! I'm hoping to be able to start painting it tomorrow :)
Just one more thing...am i being lazy? I haven't painted the back of it!

    Hi everyone ,

Can i ask your advice pleeeese ?

Today i've bought a small bureau [ for £20! ] with a drop down front, little cubby holes in the top , a drawer with lovely ornate drop handles and the bottom part has a shelf halfway down, the sliding glass doors have gone.

I think it's oak but covered in dark varnish, do i sand it back to bare wood before i paint it? [a cream, i think ] or can i just give it a quick rub with sandpaper?

I want to use it as a workstation for my laptop, in the space under the stairs, a la Harry Poter :D so i can use wicker baskets in the open shelves at the bottom for the 'stuff ' !!

Thanks all, you've inspired me to DO something with my 'hole' under the stairs :T

Keiss 21 - thanks for your advice on Saturday. Just a few questions really. My eggshell paint wasn't oil based (checked on Crown website so I was just wondering what brand you use...

In my little panic I went to B&Q and spoke to the girl who told me that any paint where you could wash the brushes out with water was water based and that only left gloss... Well, I've done them now with gloss and they do look good but I am now worried about them yellowing with age. I've put three coats of a cream coloured gloss on them and they are very shiny! It wasn't exactly the look I was after but hey you live and learn. The project has taken so long too as it takes at least 16 hours between coats to dry:cool:

One thing I was thinking about is applying some kind of flower pattern thing to them and I notice that some of you have done this successfully - thinking of the bird house here! Do you cut it out from wallpaper and then stick it on and out varnish over the top? Would this method work with gloss paint?

Lastly - and sorry for babbling on... Some of the runners seem to be falling apart on my drawers and hubby is presently in Afghanistan courtesy of MOD so I am a bit worried as I mentioned to him in his weekly phone call tonight and he told me I'd wrecked the drawers :eek::eek:- not what I wanted to hear after all my hard work and worry painting them. The tiny ball bearing things have come out. I've saved them to put back on (if poss) - Have any of you come across this?

All help/hints and tips and things I should consider are greatly recieved my brain is a big shabby sponge right now soaking up your expertise!

    Thanks

    Jo
