Quick question - we got a lovely wooden side unit at a market, don't want to paint it, but do want to polish it as have some beeswax.
Do I literally use a cloth and wipe it down with beeswax, then polish?
Or should I use normal furniture polish?

Hi Seakay, JennyJelly, missychrissy thanks for answers - I definately don't want to paint it, hence asking for help re: polishing... I have a block of beeswax and guess will give that a go. Sounds like according to the link Seakay posted it only needs doing maybe once a year so I just hope I do it right... wax on... wax off! Might get MrEL to polish it though, he's got nice strong arms :rotfl:

Very heavy unit so I am hoping it's oak!

Bexbex nice white satin paint would look lovely, might need some clear satin varnish to protect the surface? Enjoy your project time!

Loving everyones shabbying (if that's a word!) :D

    I need some help!

My little boy has gone away for a week with my lovely (or crazy) mum and dad so I'm giving his room a bit of a make over.

Anyone have any ideas for this storage unit? I have plastic bozes for it (clear ones) and the paint I have is a white satin pain I did the units I posted before in and some dulux cookie dough emulsion. Does anyone have any thoughts as to how I could paint this?

This is exactly what I need for my little boy's toys.

How about painting it with the white satin and then adding some decoupage along the theme of his room? Maybe some cut-outs from a border or something?

Well I did end up going to Cath Kidston today, and Laura Ashley but neither had a working lift so I couldn't look at most of the stuff I wanted to- I'm  and :money: too!

Bex - What about painting it all aside from the top and stick a bit of oilcloth on the top or part of one of those thick plastic car/road mats you can get (if he's the right age for cars)

    Hello ladies :D
First time posting on this thread, hope you don't mind. I'm browsing for inspiration for my new (old) house which is currently being renovated. I came across this site and thought I'd share, apologies if I have missed it previously on the thread somewhere, there is quite a bit to read through ;)

www.something-shop.com selling a mix of vintage and new items.

My starter bargains in the world of shabby chic so far (yesterday) have been two old plates which I love the colours of, they were less than £2 in a charity shop, I will later on be scouting for furniture and accessories, currently though I have quite a way before that and I don't want to buy things until I'm ready to, just in case they don't fit with the feel of the house IYKWIM?

Oh and I found a great group over on flickr, they are called Nifty thrift! Some really nice vintage finds posted up. There's also some shabby chic groups!

No you really can't tell. It convinced me to do mine anyway.
Shirl I was watching that mirror but decided not to as I really couldn't fit it in my bedroom. We will be bidding against each other soon you know!

I also almost asked you for something that was on Freecycle today and then realised it was you!
Did you want it I haven't offered yet as I haven't been on the 'net much. I've been busy sewing. I made a dress and 2 nighties for H Sunday and and a dress for E last night and tonight. Just finished the dress in time for E birthday today.

That is very similar to the one I have, I'm intending to paint off white and make baskets for it. At least I'll try making baskets because to buy them is ££££.

Thanks Shirl, I was after one that's more like a foam booster and then I read a bit more carefully and thought it probably wasn't. I want to cover something with the same fabric as the seat pads so Dylan can sit up to the table. At the moment he's on two wobbly cushions! Think your one is more like an all in one with tray?

Those candlestocks are really nice. What gold rub did you use and how did you do it?
