I did some 'shabby chic' the other day. I have an old and shabby corduroy jacket which I didn't want to throw away because it was made by a good tailor and cost me a fair bit of money. So I got some iron-on suede elbow patches from John Lewis for about £3. It looks vastly improved as the 'bald' corduroy is covered up...somebody even said 'ooo I like your jacket, is it Ralph Lauren?''Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

Hello everyone,
Back in Summer I painted a table and also a dresser with some wood paint.
Now have a bit more time, how would you recommend finishing it off please - some sort of varnish but I don't want it to be shiny...
Any advice much appreciated.MFW #185

Eager learner you can buy matt varnish to seal you painted furniture and that will give it a lovely shabby finish.
I am going to wait and see if there's any shabby chic stuff left in BHS after Christmas- I may get lucky again because last year my DH got me a metal welcome sign for about 2 quid which is a real bargain. Don't know if I can be that patient tho?Clearing the junk to travel light

I don't suppose it could be the JML Easy Stitch? That's the only JML mini sewing machine I could find and there's a fair few Google hits for it.I got out the mini sewing machine and have not figured out how to make it work!!! The shame! It's called the JML Mini Stitcher, does anyone have one? I was hoping to get started on making something, have a stash of pretty remnants that could make lovely cushion covers and peg bags.
Here's a link to the instruction manual for it:

Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!
