For the coasters what about painting over the fabric with clear nail polish, a few coats should protect the fabric.

I'd go for glass in the coasters if you take them to your local glazier he could sort them out in no time. And it wouldnt cost much at all he could probably sort it out with just offcuts. Just a bit of a safety issue - if you have young chidren :D

What about cutting the fabric a little smaller than the hole and laminating the fabric and glueing it onto the cork bit. I have never laminated fabric but I might give it a try. If you know someone with a laminator that is. If you do attempt this please try it on scraps first not lovely CK fabric.

That's a pretty stand too,I like the pink one from laura ashley in the josette range-lush!I also like the one from the contemporary home.
I have a metal cream cake stand at the mo which is great for holding cupcakes but the wrong shape for holding sandwiches or finger food.

I need to find some energy as I have so many projects on the go,but I'm exhausted tonight and getting frustrated at my lack of mojo!I went to do something but I'm so tired I can barely see the computer screen, lol

Twinkles, I know how you feel, I am sitting here on the laptop with half painted frames currently on the garden lawn, a box of sewing bits at my side and a file from work I wanted to get through tonight but I am too tired to do any of it!
Give yourself a break, I think sometimes I put too much pressure on myself you are probably the same. I think I just need sleep, an early night for me is not possible with the kids being on school holidays but I hope to catch up at the weekend, only one more day of work to go....

Thank you everyone for the brill help and ideas for the coasters :D The circles are recessed in the top so I could put glass in it but might give the oilcloth or laminated cloth a go (I managed to borrow a laminator from my sons school :D)
Thank you all again for your wonderful ideas :A

Hart you have made me think, I might try laminating fabric.
I had some spare CK fabric from my sew CK bag from the strap that I took off, I used some of it to make a little coaster but I could probably make a bookmark or two if it works. I think I will drag myself off my bum and cut some fabric to take into work and try this tomorrow.
I will let you know how I get on, if I don't set fire to the office and get the sack! :)

What about treating with the liquid you use to make fabric stiff enough for lampshades? You could treat it with this, cut out the circles and then treat with something like PVA glue to waterproof and protect the surface?

I saw this little guy in a kitchen shop all reduced at £2.00 and I just HAD to have him! I'm not sure he's strictly SC but he is cute!
