Hi everyone. Can I defend the staff that work in charity shops. due to my daughter using the Hospice near us I worked in their local shop for over six years until I lost my angel. It was very upsetting when people tried to knock us down on price. To be fair it was normally the well off people who wanted something for nothing. Maybe that is why they have more money ha ha. Car boot sales to me are the places to haggle (Hope I have not offended anyone) The charity shops owe it to the people who donate to that charity to try and get the best price for items. I agree that some charity shops are expensive and I for one dont buy things in that shop. My daughter has a heart condition and if I can I always buy from their shops. Thankfully we live in a country where we have free will. Keep smiling and painting!!x

I'm sorry if we upset you. I do feel, however, when I donate to charity shops, that I want to do dtwo things: first donate to the cause they support, and secondly help people who might want what I no longer do at a better price than they could otherwise get it for. I choose which shops to give to more carefully nowadays, because while I might support the cause I feel the latter is missing. I would rather someone got something I'd given at a great rice and the money goes to the cause sooner, than it sits, over priced and un-bought.

re haggling, I respectfully disagree. I would always accept a ''sorry, no'' but often if I see something I like but is overpriced I think its better for the cause to have a fair offer to have the option of. Haggling happens at all levels of negotiation in this country bar the high street: where it impacts on normal people most.

really I wish we'd produce less, buy less and waste less full stop, but while this is unlikely to change very quickly I love that charity shops exist so that our ''waste'' can benefit others. And yes, we are very lucky to have freedom of choice in our country, and lets keep smiling. Its good to disagree courteously and hear other opinions :)

LIR if you do find any decent quality bookcases please let me know! I've now filled two of the Billy Bookcases, 2 shelves in the conservatory and the office is just wall to wall books. Found a nice one today but it was £500 and I want 3 of them!! !

TBH, I dn't even know where to start looking ATM. Before we decided to buy the house we are buying we had planned to build, an my mind was always on built in bookshelves. I'm not sure any room would be right for that at this place, nor even if we'd be allowed to (its listed) and certainly not what the rooms will be used as long term (e.g. what is now the kitchen may be a dining room in the future, an the dining room may be a study/reading room after all!). I know I don't want ugly billy shelves, but that's all I know.

th_quilt24.jpg?t=1275504670 I made this patchwork quilt over the weekend and loved doing it so today (on the hotest day we have had for a while) I decided to do another one with the Tesco duvet cover that I got for £1.98 but when I got it out I couldn't bring my self to cut it into squares so I just stuffed the wadding inside and sewed the edge and now Im following the patern to make another bed topper type quilt :D
I will post a pick of it when Im done :D

I agree :) There is no point ''discussing'' if we all have the same view, and its good to hear contrasting opinions. I think you have put forward your opinion most graciously, and I thank you. :)

I think that there is no harm in asking in a CS, if you think the item is vastly overpriced, 'Would you take xyz for this ? The worst thing they can say is 'NO'

That is just so beautiful Hart, I love the colours. You are such a busy bee. Heading over to see a bigger picture in a moment.

I love that everybody on here is so polite and courteous, some of the other threads I have read scared me so much that I didnt post for a long time in case I was shot down in flames.

My comment was just made kind of, tongue in cheek. I know that we all appreciate the sterling work done in those shops by volunteers mostly and the more they can make on an item the better. Sorry if I upset anyone :o
But I still think that they could lower their prices sometimes!:D
