What's the poshest town in your area? Ideally if you can identify a town with the shockingly high house prices that's full of people who say yah not yeah then you've got a winner- try thier charity shops!

The problem with that is that our local posh towns the charity shops are very, very expensive. More expensive than some new shops.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Good thinking, I am not precious though, I figure as I keep losing most things its saving me a fortune so maybe I am sabotaging myself. Apart from which it will most likely go over my budget. Also it is quite a drive to pick it up. I will watch with interest to see how much it goes for.

Sarsie, I live in West Wales, Aberystwyth is the nearest town to me, everywhere else is a very long drive. I guess thats what makes everything here expensive.

Yes true ..and the staff can be more knowledgable about designer makes, hence higher prices. But sometimes you can be lucky :)

What is it with these Mega expensive charity shops! Don't they realise that we shop there coz we're poor and therfore need some charity in return! :rotfl:

I'm in a very rural area too Cheri so I get it about the driving thing, I was meaning more when you do go to places, coz I find where I come from the services I need are in different directions, so I'm passing a few different places routinely.

There are three charity shops in my town (I say town, it's a village with an historic town charter, it's not what you think of when you say "town"). One shop is out of the way and never has much good stuff, another is good- fast turnover of stuff and fair prices, but the third is killer-expensive. Guess which one's piled high with clutter! Yup the expensive one. The strangest thing is it's a local charity and has charity shop pretty much everywhere I go, none of the other ones are absurdly priced, just this branch!

You'd think the offending charity shop managers would learn really, but evidently not. So the expensive one is piled floor to ceiling with stuff it never sells like knitting patterns from the 70's... which I have no doubt would sell at 10p each, but at a quid a throw no one wants one. It's annoying because they have things I know I could use and I want, but I truly can't reach thier prices. The super-rich who donate these things (my town is the one in this area that attracts them) don't buy them, good grief no way!

    It's frustrating.

I live in a rural area too. And in one of the nearest villages they had a great little charity shop. Unfortunately it has been refurbished...and guess what? The prices are now sky high, to pay for it! I wont be going there again :(

Y'know what's just occured to me?

THIS is why freecycle is on the up'n'up. In the old days we used to give it to charity shops and get it from charity shops, since they went all capitalistic on us we can't afford it anymore!

    Just a thought.

You could have something there Sarsie.
When i give to charity shops I like to think that I am also helping someone who can't afford to pay full price for clothes as well as the charity itself.
I find their pricing odd sometimes. I saw a white polo shirt from Primark in my local charity shop on Saturday for £4.80, and a Greenwoods white polo shirt next to it on the rack (BNWT RRP £14.00) for £1.20 - guess which one I bought my (teenage) son for school?

And I bet the primark one wasnt £4.80 brand new!!

Well, my Wisteria Lane package is waiting for me at the post office. I was out when it was delivered so I am really excited to go along tomorrow and collect it.

On this note we have a BHF furniture shop just opened here, they had a coffee table that is approx £5.99 in Ikea and they had it marked as £15. They really need some volunteers who are a bit with the times i think. x

We too have BHF Furniture store close by, the other week they were asking for £150 for a garden table chair and parasol set that was on sale in ASDA for £99!!!

They also have in at the moment two Beko electric cookers, very basic ones that retail at £169 new for £175 second hand!!!
