Hart that will look gorgeous when it's done though.

Our kitchen was only put in 3 years ago by DH but I really don't love it. We have a galley kitchen and the doors are chocolate brown oak effect and it just looks so dark and they get so dirty quickly. My last kitchen was cream gloss and it never looked as grubby as this.

We have spoken a few times about how we should have gone for a lighter colour but I've never suggested painting the doors as the work puts me off. Now if I didn't need to sand everything down I might give it a go.

Has anyone done this with cheap modern doors, they are just B&Q. I was wondering if a primer would be an option?

Thank you Vicki :D I have to keep the tiles as we cann't afford to replace them but I think they will be ok with any colour I do decide on :)

Before I moved in with my OH I lived in a council house with cheap dark tacky kitchen cupboards, I was allowed to paint them so I sanded them then put a primer (white emulshion :rotfl:) then painted them with white gloss and they turned out fab with no problems.

I've heard very good reviews about ESP primer, it's meant to cover pretty much everything with no need to sand, just wipe on then paint as normal.

Sounds as though the ESP would be good for you

You can buy fridge paint too so it must be OK to do. I painted a combi boiler box once and that looked great. Sarsie, can you take some photos, what you've done sounds lovely.

Will try to work outmy new-fangled digital camera thingy wotnot later (later being- after I tidy the kitchem *ahem* lazy me! :o. The camera is OK it's the software. Managed to use it for eBay the other day so hopefully I wont be grappling it for too long, ill make the effort to get you a pic sometime today. (Although to be fair- the blue fake-smeg one someone posted definately wins hands down, so don't expect it to be as good as that one!)

We bought a Black and Decker KA226 a couple of months ago, cheapest we could get it for (also beat b&q and homebase) - in Argos at moment for £19, where we got ours:j
Thanks Crusty Toenail. I've never had one, so it's great to get a recomendation. I'll go for that one then :D
No stock in my area unfortunately, so will have a look around for the next best price

Afternoon all, I have just arrived back from town did the rounds of the charity shops but empy handed again (where do you find all your things?) I find that where I live, even the CS are expensive. I found a lovely chest of drawers in the Air Ambulance shop but they wanted £100 for them! I also wandered into the antiques shop and found one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250642008889&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT#ht_1739wt_1139. It seemed to have some kind of primer on it and they wanted £199. I seemed to recall seeing one on Ebay so thought that I would check it out. I am now duly watching in the hope that it wont go for so much, (who am I kidding)

I have cheap melamine doors in the kitchen. As we rent I didn't want the expense of replacing them so I used a wipe-on surface primer and international floor paint on them following a recommendation. I think it worked really well and at a fraction of the cost of new doors!!

What's the poshest town in your area? Ideally if you can identify a town with the shockingly high house prices that's full of people who say yah not yeah then you've got a winner- try thier charity shops!
