i've had a wonderful weekend at in-laws. didn't do any patchwork. but i did make this. a heart hanger for the lounge. i am so chuffed . i loved it. didn't take too long about two hours in total. most of that time was the fiddling around working out how i wanted it. matches perfect in my lounge.

Hi I lurk around here admiring your homes, The whole ShabbyChic thing is lovely, but not ever going to happen here! I did buy these gorgeous mirrors though at the weekend and thought you'd all like them, they were £9.95 reduced form £35, from Bombay Duck.

Good morning to you all. I have been MIA for a while I know but have been really busy decorating the living space. I'm really pleased with it, nothing fancy just Dulux Malt Chocolate. Didn't want anything too OTT because my vintage / shabby themed pieces will do the job of that quite nicely!! lol

Great news is that I won this on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330435694534&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

I'm so pleased. Can't wait to get the paintbrush to it! I also got a nest of 2 dark wood tables for £5 at the car boot and a hand made wooden lamp, which will also be subjected to the paintbrush and a shade make over. I'm thinking red polker dots with white rick rack (says the girl who's only ever sewn buttons and hems!!)

:rotfl: I had that on my watch list but bought another one before that one ended. Will look forward to seeing how it comes out :)

Hmmm... I think I need some tips!!!!

I am trying to paint some some tea/coffee canisters with eggshell paint but the brush strokes are showing up really badly... Is that supposed to be part of the charm or am I doing something wrong?!

Also, how do I go about 'shabby'ing them up after painting? Do I just lightly sand a few bits or something else?

    Thanks!

Good luck kevin, may be a very thin coat, sanding lightly then other thin cot in another direction?

We're sorting and packing some stuff today. I have found out I really do not need any more scented candles for a very long time!

Hi, does anyone know if there is anywhere online with a tutorial/pattern to make these? Thanks :)

vix, how i did it was i draw a heart on some thick paper and cut it out. then draw another two but smaller. i then pinned the large one to the felt and cut it out. i repeated this with the other hearts using different shades of felt.
once i'd cut the hearts i then played around with ribbon and the hearts to get the design i wanted. i sewed the smallest heart on using a constrasting embroider thread using a simple straight stitch. then if i used ribbon i would use a thin white cotton so it looked invisble.
i layered up the hearts until i was happy. i then cut out another large heart for the back. using some ribbon i made a hanging hoop and sewed it to the top of the heart which was the backing heart.
i then started to sew them together using again a constrasting thread when nearly all the way around i left a gap and filled it with stuffing a bit at a time. when filled enough i carried on sewing it up.

    hope this is helpful.

my kitchen has always been a high functioning room
i cook, a LOT, so it has always been, ermmmm, a more professional set up than a homely one
hope that makes sense (i am a clean freak, and hate clutter)

now i will have the space to have things for aesthetic purposes rather than purely function
i am in danger of having what looks like a film set though
i dont know whether i am worrying over nothing
i have been buying things with the premiss of "oh that will look nice in there"
but because its an empty space, i only have whats in my head to go by

so i guess my question really is, when it comes to "stuff"
    how much is too much?

I'd say if you're worried about stuff, start by replacing functional things with prettier versions and use them to display things that way. So if you normally have packets of pasta in your cupboard, find a nice storage jar or tin, put the pasta in and then put it out on the worktops as practical decoration. Things like pretty cake tins, pretty plates, cookie jars etc. I have some really funky bright pink weighing scales which I keep out on the worktops all the time, that way it doesn't just look like there's loads of 'stuff' if you see what I mean, it looks very kitcheny :)
D'you know, in 900 years of space and time, I've never met anyone who wasn't important

not a problem at all. i hand stitched it. i used a big head needle, but not a darning needle as i needed a sharp point so i could go through the felt with easy, but needed to be able to thread the thick embroidey threads through the eye.
