i have 2 dressers in the kitchen
one is a large one and it holds all my kilner jars of "stuffs"
probably about 50 of them in varying sizes
the other has spices etc in it, and they will both be remaining

its the "pretty" things that are my problem
my kitchen was going to be SC all over
half way through it changed to 50s diner style
i had collected SC things for a long time, so they have been relegated to the loft:( and its all the new things i am worrying about

two teens helping in the purchasing, so you can imagine
yes, we REALLY did need a gumball machine:undecided apparently:D

i have no option but to wait and see what fits in i suppose
i have no concept of space, hence the kitchen extension as it is
maybe the extension will need an extension:rotfl:

  • For all those that a looking for a wide oil cloth - John Lewis do 2m sqaure oil cloths and lovely disigner cupcake one too - it is nearly impossibe to get oil cloth anywhere wider than 150 cm, so this is ideal for larger square or round tables:T:T:T

Just be aware that these cloths stain like you wouldn't believe!

I bought the cream one with large spots and I binned it after two months because it stains even if you wipe food straight off. (Although, I do have two small children and it was their sloppy eating habits that caused the mess in the first place. Otherwise it looked fine.)

I think spray paint would be your best bet Kev.

Oh dear, I thought that was the point that oilcloth is wipe clean, or was it just the John Lewis one that did that?
I have been contemplating making myself one :(

I've had the blue polka dot one from Laura Ashley on my dining table for about a year and it's about due to be replaced as it's starting to look a bit shabby (not good shabby!). I spray mine with flash bleach and scrub marks off usually as soon as the (3) children have finished eating, definitely scrubbing if it's a tomato based sauce or similar. Our dining table is used twice every day so it's worn well. Our previous oilcloth lasted about 2 years and that was a lene bjerre cream 'millie' roses one and rec'd the same treatment. I've never had one from John Lewis though.

My mil has some oil cloth not sure where from but hers has only got stained from kids paints ( dark colours) it is about 3 or 4 years old now and apart from those few marks it is fine. but it is one she bought for when the kids do art and crafts at her table.

i wonder what the one from 'the range' is like ? as i am hoping to get some from there. if i can buy it online.

I've got a stained/varnished table and chairs that I really want to paint. I've tried sanding by hand, and didn't manage to get very much off. So, I bought some Nitro mors. Tried that earlier and although it brought a good amount of varnish off the chair seat, it's barely done anything for the spindles and legs. So, it seems it would take a long time and a lot of work, even with the Nitro mors, and having used it, I'm not really happy to keep going with it. I did it outside in the yard, but with the breeze, it went everywhere. I have cats, so I'm not happy to have this stuff blown about where they'll walk. Ofcourse, I swept it up, and then swilled the yard down. But, I'm still not happy to continue using it.

So, do any of you know if there is any paint that will go straight over the varnish (or something that I can paint on to provide a key)....Or. any other less messy way of doing it, please? :)

how about taking it to a wood stripping place . not sure of excate name, but you can take furniture along and they will dip it for you in really strong stuff and it gets it all cleaned up. unsure of the cost. of how about a electric sander ?
