I agree, dont paint if you like the wood. I havent painted my bureau because I am really liking it as it is. I think shabby chic is a mix of painted and natural wood, so dont worry. Thats a good price too. x

Hello everyone I have just finished reading the old thread which took me quite a while as I have 2 little girls, and the youngest is only 12 weeks old so time is precious.I've been so inspired by all the gorgeous blogs and photos and have set about making our new house more homely.I have been suffering with depression,my hubby suggested I needed to distract myself,so I've thrown myself into this and I'm loving it!I'm in the middle of painting our dining room chairs which are v 80s/90s orange pine.I've painted them with dimity and recovered the seat with laura ashleys eau de nil polka dots.So so pleased with the results and Ive had some lovely positive comments. When I have time and I've worked out how I will pop a pic up.
Yest I pva-ed my bathroom unit and decorated the tesco paper napkins(v cath kidston). It looks good but 'm wondering if I should varnish over the top of this to protect it and make it hard wearing?Could I use clear water based varnish?I don't want to rip the paper if you see what I mean.Take care all

i dont know if they are all over the country or just up north, but I was in The Range today and they have some lovely little bits in the SC style. picked up a few seaside bits for the bathroom, and a lovely retro sign for the kitchen. lots of hearts and lanterns in cream, not bad priced either.

Should we have a sticky on post #1 with all the free sample sites so that we (and newbies) can see them all at a glance?

    I like this idea!
And including members blogs so they can be easily found??

Maybe we need a new thread? This ones pretty full now.

I don't often get to Tesco so I was really pleased that they had all the bits in I wanted - I love that little clock I am a sucker for anything art deco and I love it's shape!
eta. the Keep Calm postcards are not from Tesco but from the Keep Calm Gallery, but they turned up today.

We had one but we weren't allowed to use it :rotfl:

Thank you for your lovely message Thriftkitten. My shabbying is still zero along with my energy and cheer at the moment :o had a tough weekend and haven't slept for 4 nights in a row, so exhausted.

In better news the new mortgage application is being submitted today so hopefully we'll have some more positive news soon, however having spent the last 4 months saying that every couple of days for some reason or another I'm finding it hard to believe and get my hopes up until we have the survey back and the solicitors working.

Sorry for being such a grump :( will find something more cheerful and shabby to post soon :D

You be as grumpy as you like Bibbity, there is nothing worse than getting your hopes up and having them dashed. I was in the same position before Christmas. Found my flat then was told they wouldnt let me register as I hadnt agreed a sale on my house. Agreed a sale on my house only to be told the one I wanted had gone. Then another one came up so I registered for that. Two weeks before completion the mortgage company decided to down value the flat and wouldnt give me enough of a mortgage to make up the difference in my deposit (credit cards duly maxed hence me finding MSE) but I finally got the flat. There is a positive in every negative without that happening I wouldnt have come on MSE, found Shabby Chic and have my passion reignited by you lovely people and be inspired by your blog. Things will turn out in the end.

Kandi, what fantastic buys. Are they all from Tescos? I am currently bidding on some kimono fabric on ebay which is divine. Not really shabby chic but I have decided that I want to resurrect my hobby of making my own designer cushions so if I win the fabric I will get started on that. Now I just need to find a cheap sewing machine having given mine to a friend during my deepest depressed days.
