Hello,
I am in the process of starting a Freecycle group. I've never used it before since there are none in my area (I live on an Island, so have rather set boundaries!) and I must admit I am getting cold feet. Are there any Freecycle Admins who fancy a chat about it all?0 -
So far Ive offered
A box of childrens encylopedias
A PC monitor
2 bedside tables
towel rail still in the box ( not that great)
mattress
bookcase & tv cabinet
So far Ive recieved
NOTHING
I think not having a car makes it nigh on impossible to collect the stuff you really need ( im desperate for a kenwood chef or breadmaker) but I dont have a car as im trying to be green!!! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
DOHHHH
i joined freecycle ages ago (well about 2 weeks) and didnt realise lots of emails going to new yahoo account, i was wondering how people kept up to date of all the postings
now there are over 900 messages in the account, spending this evening deleting them me thinks.
so my tip, check your yahoo account
and if i am the only dimwit who didnt realise this is the way it works apologies to you clever people :TReady to Go Go!0 -
If you haven't already (and with that many emails, probably not) sign up for the group's daily digest, that way you get one email a day with all the postings from the past 24 hours (or thereabouts).

Hey guys,
anyone know the reason why?
I use to get my emails about freecycle in my junkbox and then one day they started to appear in my inbox and now they have stopped altogether?
Anyone else had this problem or know the reason why this is happening?
TIA
SpikeyUse your judgement, and above all, be honest with yourself.I walk with the world & the world walks with me!I don't make bad choices!!! Other people just fail to see my GENIUS !!!!0 -
Cars are often offered on Freecycle because it is cheaper to give them away than have them collected for scrap.
I recently offered two things, both were claimed, and neither person bothered to turn up. I'm getting a bit cheesed off by it.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

Yes..I am with hotmail and they suddenly sarted coming into my inbox, i solved the problem by creating a new folder and filtering all emails with the word 'freecycle' in the title to that.
It worked wonders!
As for suddenly not recieving them, that occasionally happens to me and then I get a flood of backdated ones. try emailing a freecycle moderator.Membre Of Teh Misspleing Culb0 -
With reference to the discussion about selling freecycled stuff on - I recently picked up three HUGE boxes of books from a lady who was going to bin them otherwise. Most of them I kept for myself, but some where duplicates, or not of interest to me so I have listed them on amazon. I don't think this is an abuse of the freecycling way - as long as someone gets use out of it, and you're keeping stuff out of landfill, where's the harm? Also, we get lots of cars, laptops, pcs and luxury goods offered on our london freecycle, so I don't think it's cheeky to post a wanted - I'd certainly freecycle my computer when I get a new one.Official Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! My partner received a car from Freecycle once. Unfortunately, it had a fault and the garage couldn't work out what was causing it (without charging more than the car was worth) and we ended up getting rid of it!
I've had a few bits and bobs in the past and have decluttered a few unwanted items and am just about to list some more stuff out of the loft.0
