how sad you are. i hate peeps who grammer police the net.

I'm not grammar policing the net, it's just my preference.
I mentioned it so Bh would have the best chance of being chosen for something because there's plenty of other people on freecycle like me.

Ive placed an odd wanted ad on freecycle but not had any responses or offers to them. WhenIve politely responded to ads offering things, I've still not been lucky.

On the occasions Ive offered things of mine for free, Im unindated with requests!!

freecycle is what it is. just ignore the numpties. there are some really nice peeps on there.
all the bad replies get deleted PDQ. i really couldnt care less if some one sells an item of mine on ebay etc...
anything is better than landfill. and thats the name of the game.

I agree that giving away to muppets is better than landfill but when you are faced with hundreds of emails you will be drawn to the polite, well composed ones more.

Therefore if you really want something then you need to give yourself the best chance.

Emails in this instance should be treated like a letter so grammer and lay out is important.

If you applied for a job via email you wouldn't expect to get an interview by sending "yeah ill ave the job mate".:D

  • I still use freecycle, but mostly to give stuff away, despite how rude people can be.

I've had a few horrible emails from people after i didn't choose them and once went further than i normally would to collect an item to find it had been given away to someone else.

No one ever gets anything from me when they simply put "If still available, i'll have it" or when they say "When can i collect".

Nor do i personally ring people, especially when someone gave me their mobile # and asked me to leave my address on the answer ph as they'd be on holiday.

Then outta the blue people can surprise you. Only last Monday did i respond to an offer post of a pine tv cabint, when they asked if i could collect that evening and i said no because id just burn't my leg while cooking and OH was still at work, they offered to bring it to my house for me as i was close by. Within 10 mins i had my cabinet, couldn't believe it.

Because it's our planet that we are destroying with our needless waste. Why dump a working TV because you've replaced with a later model, why dump a decent sofa because it no longer matches your colour scheme?

When I had my first home I was grateful for secondhand furniture from family and friends and that was the natural route of disposing of old furniture etc. not dumping them.

Now people start out wanting new but a few clued up people, probably MSE;), have realised they don't have to waste their money when people are giving away decent stuff. Sometime it's just house clearance after a relative has died, gone into a home etc. and they don't have the will to sell it, don't want to dump or simply realise that there are people out their who need it but can't afford to buy it.

thats exactly my situation, i'm trying to buy a house, probably same sort of size as a lot of people here live in, but because of house prices these days every penny i have had for ages has had to go on a deposit and getting the place checked out cos it is repo'd.

if it wasnt for donated furniture i would probably be sat on the floor (or the office chair from my room at my parents house which i am sat on now)
things arent the way they were before, you wouldnt even recognise me anymore- not that you knew me back then ;)
BH is my best mate too, its ok :)

I trust BH even if he's from Manchester.. ;)

I have offered goods on Freecycle and have always given the items to the person who responds first as I think that is the fairest thing to do. I have been lucky that the people I've dealt with have been polite and haven't messed me around. So my main advice would be to get in there quick and to check the group messages regularly especially when it's coming up to the weekend and bank holidays as most people have clearouts then.

Good luck with you're Freecycling and I hope you get the things you need.
This site rocks and has saved me loads -
thanks to all those that post on the forums and have saved me money
