Freecycle (Merged Thread)

Dont get me wrong, freecycle is a great idea. I've given away and been given things so can see it from both angles. But I find I always, always get time wasters, people who want to car-boot my stuff for me, people who expect me to wait in my house for them and then don't show up etc etc, so expect to list things two or three times before you finally get rid.0

So i thought well they've given us mobiles for free i'll put our old ones on freecycle. As you can imagine i got flooded with emails, so simply wrote everyones name down and got my OH to choose 2 that way he didn't know the reason behind the person asking for it.
Put my taken post on the board and get an email this morning reading:
'thanks for putting the taken post up, you really know how to upset children don't you'

Why do people have to be this way, what makes her think she deserved them more than anyone else.
Some people are awful! I would put their email address straight into my SPAM list!Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

I contacted the moderator straight away and sorta black listed them as i am curious if they will ever contact me about future things i might put on freecycle, of course if they do i definately won't be offering it to them.
I sent an email back saying 'excuse me, but don't be so rude' etc etc, but i had a tiny spelling mistake, i put don't me so rude.
Got an email back saying 'learn to spell, u stupid b****'
:rotfl:

and i'm guessing that email went straight to the mods too!!
Actually at this point I would be inclined to post another taken advert and publishing those replies at the same time. Name and shame I say.Good Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

I would if i could, the mod would probably not allow it. I've had messages altered after once when i got people asking me to ring them to arrange collection or could i drop it off. Both at which i refuse to do because i am giving away things for free, why do i want to incur costs of ringing mobiles and going to deliver my stuff.
I basically put a taken post and then put in the body of it that i didn't appreciate requests to ring mobiles or deliver and the mod took all of that info out.Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -

that has got to be the childish thing ive seen today, how pathetic, id have posted that back to the group for all to see tbh, or let the moderators decide what to do with it, all her/his own fault if theyre going to tell the kids theyve got them already before being told so lol0 -
i stumbled across this thread today and have read the most recent few pages. i am honestly staggered as to the snobbery apparent on this thread. fair enough, wanteds are abused hugely, but the implicit suggestion that anyone who has the temerity to post a wanted for anything specific is somehow a chancer or a scrounger is just ridiculous.
freecycle is about keeping things out of landfill. if you want/need something specific, surely it's better to see whether there's someone local who has precisely that item and currently has no use for it? if someone wants a silver fridge, or a dvd player, or a PS2, or even a laptop, then what harm is there in seeing if anyone has one? the next step would be to buy one, but why buy one when someone potentially already has an unwanted one they will chuck out sooner or later?
people always seem to get very heated about wanteds for electronic items... but by their very nature, electronic items are obsolescent very quickly. if something is not part of the current range, then a significant number of people will have upgraded and have no real use for the old version. so it's a bit rich to ask for an xbox360, but criticising someone for asking for a ps2 is just harsh... the console is coming up to a decade old! similarly many people have replaced their first generation freeview boxes/dvd players with freeview dvd recorders etc. even early satnavs are old hat now.
a simple barometer for wanteds i think most people use is just to see whether the item requested is frequently offered on freecycle. that is why no-one is asking for a house, but people do sometimes ask for modest cars (one guy here gave away a car with tax, mot, roofbox and satnav recently, followed soon after by another car). we get one or two laptops offered a week, and normally at least one wanted for a laptop per day... nothing out of the ordinary, really. people know that these things are being gifted by very kind people, and so optimistically seek to find a very kind person of their own to help them out. some are doing so cynically rather than optimistically, of course... but not all of them.
obviously there are no excuses for being rude, or ungrateful, or deceitful. but to criticise people just for asking for a specific thing is inappropriate, i feel. if another item would not be useful then its better to make that clear at the outset, i would've thought. if you need a phone that works with your 3g sim, then why not ask for it? if your silver toaster is broken and your kitchen is coordinated, why not ask for a silver one? and, finally, noone is compelled to read or respond to wanteds. you can even filter them out completely if you want.
and yes, i'm as annoyed by genuine chancers/fraudsters/cheats/profiteers (and don't get me started on people who are so, so, so rude) as anyone else. but its a bit harsh to tar everyone with the same brush.
apologies for the rant0 -
I've just sent an email to one of the local groups because they don't seem to have a policy regarding received ads, so the group gets cluttered up with people posting received posts for stuff that has been posted as offered.0
