Now that really is taking the proverbial
There's often requests for leather suites on one of my groups - and they're very particular about colour and MUST be in a good condition. I always feel tempted to point them towards DFS or similar :D

I offered several things in one listing today. Within 5 minutes of the post appearing on the group, I got an e-mail saying 'I'll take them all off your hands' (sum total of message) I replied saying 'actually, no you won't' :D

ha ha - nice one pam.

reminds me must offer up my Olympus XA2 35mm film Camera
Hate and I do mean Hate my apple Mac Computer - wish I'd never bought the thing
    Do little and often
Please stop using the word "of" when you actually mean "have" - it's damned annoying

    Someone posted this:
    "does any1 have a 3piece suite or even a 3 a 2 and a 1seater that they
would like to see given to a good home? it must be in very good
condition and preferably neutral colour [plain]biege or brown or
black . larger the better as it is for a big family. we would be very
very grateful believe, thankyou all i hope we are lucky this way as
each time i mail someone who has advertised they have been taken.we
live in gloucester and can arrange to pick up when ever suits you if
    we like it"

im all for people giving stuff for free to a good home but surely if your wanting a 3 piece suite then your not going to say "if we like it" the colour wont matter if your asking for a freebie

You're obviously in the same group as me! I too was stunned at this, particularly the "If we like it."
What about the hard done-by bit about them not getting one's they've asked for too?
There was another poster who included some of the emails she'd received in reponse to her offer when she posted her "Taken.". These included "I asked for other items of yours and didn't get them, so think I should get this as I've been disappointed by you before." and another calling her a "Selfish b1tch" and accusing her of ruining their kids lives as they couldn't go on holiday without her item!
No wonder she was disillusioned with Freecycle! (Tho' I gather she received lots of supportive emails pointing out how it's the minority spoiling it for the majority.)

 That's appalling  I hope the people/person writing those e-mails got reported and banned (although sadly they'd just sign up with another yahoo ID, I'd think. Still, with that tone, they'd soon give themselves away)

Things are a bit quiet on the freecycle front today. I've not had an email off them since 11am!
I gave someone a manual treadmill the other day and she was well pleased and i asked her to keep in touch with how the weight loss is going and she is doing, adding her grateful thanks to each email.
    Nice of her :)
just passing through.... Nothing to see....

    Heres another

"hi, the machine in my new flat has died! if anyone has one in
reasonable working order and condition, please drop me a line.
    many thanx
    doug"

if his washing machine is broken then get it fixed or if its cheaper to buy a new one then buy one, i admit he could be hard up but asking for a washing machine in good working order is too much

We quite often see washing machines in GWO on our freecycle. I should drop him a line. I have one in reasonable working order (i'm not getting rid of it but he only asks for you to get in contact if you have one, not one you want to get rid of!) :rotfl:

I gave away my ancient washing machine through Freecycle as it had an intermittent fault. (Every now and again it would stick on the final spin, going on, and on, and on etc!) Advertised it detailing the fault and still got 2 asks. Chap that collected it, (promptly, as arranged!) was delighted with it as all he needed to do was only put on a wash when he was going to be around, instead of traipsing over to is folk's. He's even emailled me a few times over the last couple of years letting me know it's still going strong!
It would have been a real performance taking it to the tip, so a prime example of how Freecycle can work well for both parties.

Another request today for a Satnav -

This, I know, is a very very long shot. Would anyone be getting fed up
with their navigation system? I tried to get to xxxx the other day and
ended up miles away! Not the first time I have got it wrong! My little
Rover can't take too much more extra mileage.
Thankyou for reading - and probably laughing ..... well, you never
    know...

I had one that was pretty much unused - bought a year ago, used twice etc. I sold it on Ebay for just under £100. Who is honestly going to give away a Satnav for free ? Anyone who does has more money than sense! As for that person posting, I was soooo tempted to suggest she try Comet etc. Just another scrounger, in my book - especially when I looked at her list of 'wants' posted over the last few months

I'm in the Glasgow Freecycle Group and frankly I am about to give up .I have offered a few items recently and the problems are people not reading what I say about insisting on a contact tel number when I have offered the item to the first to respond ...PLUS...folk failing to either get back to me with a date/time to collect so I know that if I am not in I can safely leave it on the landing for them to collect OR not turning up at all.
It's hardly worth the bother ..I am getting really peed off ...so if I continue to get rid of stuff I want rid of to make space it is either going to the dump or if it is a reasonable item it is either going on Ebay or to a charity shop .

Hi, yeah I'm in the Glasgow one too and I heard that there was a schism regarding moderation and so a breakaway group formed Glasgow freeshare. This was before I joined so I don't know the details. But I feel the Glasgow ones are full of chancers : Wanted - laptop etc. Well yeah I'd like a laptop too!! Also had a lot of bother with no-shows in the last couple of weeks. I think that comes down to people don't value it because it's free

The Paisley group is a lot smaller and seems friendlier so far IMHO.

I also make it a rule not to offer to the first asker esp if it's come in within seconds of my post!!

All that aside it's the best thing that's ever happened to me, I've given away a lot of stuff that charities wouldn't take and I don't want to go to landfill also I've recieved some really great and useful stuff .
Just call me Nodwah the thread killer
