  • chat board format (like this one!)
means 'threads' can be followed, old posts reviewed more easily, pictures posted, threads 'closed' by the poster once the item has been taken.. etc :)

Isn't that against Freecycle's rules - I'm sure somewhere they state you must use Yahoo groups?
  • Yes Freecycle(r) Groups have use Yahoo Groups but anyone setting up similar sites can use any format so long as they don't use the Freecycle name.
  • Horsham Freecycle really want to increase their membership, so if you are in the Horsham area, please check them out in Yahoo Groups.

They can be found on http://groups.yahoo.com/group/horsham-freecycle/

Bit of detail for anyone new to the idea and for anyone interested in finding if there is one in their area:

The Horsham and Southwater Freecycle® group is open to all who want to "recycle" that special something rather than throw it away. Whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano or an old door, feel free to post it. Or maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself! Nonprofit groups are also welcome to participate too!

One main rule: everything posted must be free. This group is part of The Freecycle Network, a nonprofit organization and a movement of people interested in keeping good stuff out of landfills. Check out freecycle.org for other cities and info on the movement! E-mail yourtownfreecycle-owner@yahoogroups.com for questions or improvement ideas!
Have fun and jump right in!

  • Thanks. Will join up tomorrow as off to bed now but live in Crawley but work in Horsham.

Nice to see local people on the board!
Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.

    Hi angelavdavis,

You may get more of a response on the Green and Ethical board, so I've moved your thread over there.

It will be good to see you on the board!

I have the luxury of being able to join the Horsham and Hastings Freecycle groups for the same reasons as you - work one place, live the other!

I would look up the Crawley branch too if you haven't already!!!

    Best wishes

This week I posted my first ever offer on the local Freecycle message board. I have several people interested, but the person I picked to receive the item has not responsed to me about whether she wants the item still or not. It's been 48 hours so I am not sure how long to leave it before I offer it to someone else. If someone with experience of Freecycle can let me know I'd appreciate it. I don't want to mess anyone around, but equally, I want to give my item another home asap. Thanks PP

I'd normally wait a couple of days and then send a message to them saying "as I'm not sure if you still want it, I will wait until ______ (a couple/few days) and I don't hear from you I will reoffer it." I would give less time for a large bulky item that I want out of the way though, also it depends when you are available for it to be collected.
  • I wait 3 days, then send a polite reminder. If no response then, I offer it to someone else. You won't believe how much trouble I had getting rid of a Playstation - 40 replies and it took weeks! No messing, these days.

I would expect a bit more consideration from people getting freebies.
